Yeah... I wouldn't have gone with Hardcore if they didn't say that. :P
Lots of relying on the knife, lots of sitting at danger health and abusing the auto health regen when at 'critical' after about 20 seconds...
Never again!
On the other hand the Money drops from enemies were absurd and about 10x more than normal - which funnily enough I wasn't even aware of until I did a regular run afterward and noticed them being so much less.
If nothing else you can afford most of the weapon upgrades pretty easily
Although, I'm also not trying to upgrade weapons just yet, at least till I get the Red9, which I hope is still available early village. Since I plan on using that gun till endgame like in the original. But then again I noticed as well that Money is actually pretty plentiful in this game. You complete those treasures that have slots for jewels and one of them netted me like 45k-50k money, which I held off just because I want to expriment on gem combinations.
I did upgrade the Knife's durability to max, as well as upgraded to the second case so inventory wouldn't be too bad. Also picked up the rifle and TMP, I might upgrade the TMP because I'll probably keep that till endgame too like in the original as an Alternative to the Pistol when Pistol ammo is low.
1.Welp, I enjoy a challenge but probably can do without constant pressure like this.
2. I hate getting stabbed in the side or back by someone with a pitchfork. lol
... and speaking of being surrounded I still don't know how I managed to get through the Villa defense with Luis.
: (
I don't have a loose nerve in my brain when on hardcore.
Not my preferred way of a first run either, but oh well. Sunk cost.
Try a different pistol. The Red 9 was often miscited as good when it was one of the worst pistols in the original and has been nerfed here making it easily the worst gun in the game.
Aside from the immense size with the stock, while it has good dmg per round the handgun is more efficient if doing headshots due to its heavily boosted critical special when maxed. As for the handgun or other guns in general theyw ill fire faster than the slow fire rate Red 9 and I suspect there is a rapid stagger decay mechanic where if there is too long of a gap between shots on the head/leg they wont stagger as easily and the Red 9's poor fire rate contributes to this issue... The extra dmg in exchange for being worse in every other regard severely hurts it and even its dmg isn't special. Even if you've invested it might be worth just selling it and starting to upgrade another pistol. Most likely though the Handgun will probably still be by far the best pistol like in the OG (though I've heard the DLC Sentinel 9 may be a straight upgrade and have its special crit boost but can't confirm).
I hate how the grab deals instant damage. Even just being restrained deals damage. RE5 and 2 remake got grabs right. It doesn't help that they spam the move like crazy. A lot of things just feel designed to frustrate the player. It's more tedious than anything. I like the atmosphere, I guess...
I've never used the herb charm... or the deluxe pistol.
Saving them for later runs.
Just got to the castle, and advice on Mendez:
Don't knife his weakspot, shoot it with your rifle. You maybe able to bring him to stage two in just one round of shooting multiple times.
I use Keyboard and Mouse on my Steam Deck, works fine outside of some fumbling with the smaller keyboard I use for my deck.
I went ahead and cleared VoS twice after realizing the surplus of money drop.
Got most of the best guns and their infinite ammo that way. lol
