"If you played RE4 before, start with Hardcore difficulty" my a**
Don't start fresh with hardcore.

It's pain, it's torture, it's sadism without pleasure. Especially if you play with a controller.

There are advantages to this difficulty:
1. You will learn every single enemy really well very fast, because if you don't you will not make it past any of them lmfao.
2. It probably will prepare you better for PRO mode.
3. It will teach you the virtue of patience and perseverance.

Con:
You will suffer.

Dear lord please let me carry my good guns into my first Professional run.

I'm loving it, but I also was kinda playing the original with a HP randomizer and stuff to make it harder, so I was obviously looking for a challenge. They should have probably just laid it out like most games do instead of referring to the original.

Yeah... I wouldn't have gone with Hardcore if they didn't say that. :P

started on hardcore, almost near the castle. health gating helps a lot, deluxe pistol and herb charm are strong.

But then again, VoS naked fresh run is definitely a whole lot worse.
Think my final clear time was something like 30+hrs :lunar2019crylaughingpig: :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

Lots of relying on the knife, lots of sitting at danger health and abusing the auto health regen when at 'critical' after about 20 seconds...
Never again! :reexcited:

On the other hand the Money drops from enemies were absurd and about 10x more than normal - which funnily enough I wasn't even aware of until I did a regular run afterward and noticed them being so much less.
If nothing else you can afford most of the weapon upgrades pretty easily :steamhappy:
I started on standard and honestly, it's noticbly better in the difficulty department then normal was in the original that's for sure. Even normal enemies are threatening.

Although, I'm also not trying to upgrade weapons just yet, at least till I get the Red9, which I hope is still available early village. Since I plan on using that gun till endgame like in the original. But then again I noticed as well that Money is actually pretty plentiful in this game. You complete those treasures that have slots for jewels and one of them netted me like 45k-50k money, which I held off just because I want to expriment on gem combinations.

I did upgrade the Knife's durability to max, as well as upgraded to the second case so inventory wouldn't be too bad. Also picked up the rifle and TMP, I might upgrade the TMP because I'll probably keep that till endgame too like in the original as an Alternative to the Pistol when Pistol ammo is low.

It's a very steep curve (First ganado murdered me), but once I got more familiar with the controls it hasn't been too bad so far. Just got to remember to aim lower than normal for the handgun so I don't keep shooting over their heads, and try to use the environment where I can.

I have not stopped playing Hardcore. I just can't do it on my Steam Deck, that's a PC mouse and keyboard only thing for me.

I have cleared the village... and too far in to start over now.

Guess I'll just power through it.

Pretty sure I'll grow more chesthair after this sh**.

Should get easier with upgrades. even in the og game the first few hours where somewhat hard.

Prolly is harder in this one due to parries and dodges and better movement.
I like how enemies will just juggle you too instead of being like a chineese kungfoo movie were it looks like its 20 people fighting you, but its really a 1v1

1.Welp, I enjoy a challenge but probably can do without constant pressure like this.

2. I hate getting stabbed in the side or back by someone with a pitchfork. lol
... and speaking of being surrounded I still don't know how I managed to get through the Villa defense with Luis.

This is def. harder than the OG, and no amount of OG experience will save you in Hardcore.
I'm right before the scaffolds area fight, and I just had to take a break. It's good but damn.
agree never played hardcore classic Re4 i was always use to play normal knifing legs and kicking while wasting little ammo

I tend to play survival horror games on normal difficulty because I dislike running out of ammo. Call me a wuss, oh well, is what it is. I play tactical RPGs on super hard and such, it all depends on what you're into.

Anyway... going through pistol ammo like water even on "standard." Glad I didn't pick hardcore!

: (
I don't have a loose nerve in my brain when on hardcore.
Not my preferred way of a first run either, but oh well. Sunk cost.

Seems fine to me so far but I'm still early in so guess I'll see if it spikes.

It would be perfectly fine if not for the RNG head shot stun. You can't plan around random.
Note: The following advice is based on some early info I saw yesterday waiting for release about the gun upgrades and nerfs in their stats and my prior knowledge with the OG.

Yeah, it is extremely annoying to get choked by a ganado running towards you without even reacting to the two Red 9 bullets I'm putting into their skull. :')
Try a different pistol. The Red 9 was often miscited as good when it was one of the worst pistols in the original and has been nerfed here making it easily the worst gun in the game.

Aside from the immense size with the stock, while it has good dmg per round the handgun is more efficient if doing headshots due to its heavily boosted critical special when maxed. As for the handgun or other guns in general theyw ill fire faster than the slow fire rate Red 9 and I suspect there is a rapid stagger decay mechanic where if there is too long of a gap between shots on the head/leg they wont stagger as easily and the Red 9's poor fire rate contributes to this issue... The extra dmg in exchange for being worse in every other regard severely hurts it and even its dmg isn't special. Even if you've invested it might be worth just selling it and starting to upgrade another pistol. Most likely though the Handgun will probably still be by far the best pistol like in the OG (though I've heard the DLC Sentinel 9 may be a straight upgrade and have its special crit boost but can't confirm).
I'm extremely disappointed with how the remake handles difficulty. I've been playing the original since 2009, so I chose Hardcore. Inconsistent flinches don't work well with how many enemies they throw at you. I didn't really mind the lack of I-frames in the demo, but after playing chapter 2, this game really needs them.

I hate how the grab deals instant damage. Even just being restrained deals damage. RE5 and 2 remake got grabs right. It doesn't help that they spam the move like crazy. A lot of things just feel designed to frustrate the player. It's more tedious than anything. I like the atmosphere, I guess...

I've never used the herb charm... or the deluxe pistol.
Saving them for later runs.
Just got to the castle, and advice on Mendez:
Don't knife his weakspot, shoot it with your rifle. You maybe able to bring him to stage two in just one round of shooting multiple times.

I use Keyboard and Mouse on my Steam Deck, works fine outside of some fumbling with the smaller keyboard I use for my deck.

I went ahead and cleared VoS twice after realizing the surplus of money drop.

Got most of the best guns and their infinite ammo that way. lol
