It does suck, it isn't even a real laser, its basically a skin of the crosshair. Ridiculously long winded explanation ahead, because its annoying seeing people talk about the laser in this remake as if its the same as before, or saying that people who prefer the original can just put lasers on all the guns.
With the proper in world laser, you are aiming relative to the world and all the actors within it. If you aim at an enemy and they approach leon, they effectively walk along the laser. However in the remake (or most other 3rd person shooters, quite a few exceptions that use neat tricks to alleviate this), they might still walk towards leon, but because you are aiming just with the camera you would have to track their movements to keep aiming at them, which does not feel natural.
Our camera is effectively on skewed vertical plane to how the entire game operates. This means that in the remake and many other third person shooters you are effectively aiming along a plane that is not relevant to how everything else operates.
This is also very evident when you look at how in the remake Leon isn't even really aiming where the reticule is, and is often aiming way too far to the right, because really there isn't any way to actually have him always aim where the reticule is pointed because that changes greatly depending on the distance from the camera to whatever object is centre of screen.
Now, is this actually a dealbreaker? no, I think its ridiculous to drop a game you like because of this, but its also as ridiculous to imply that the lasers are in anyway equal.
Agree, the cross hair is to me, so far misleading.
Nobody is saying this, also skill issue
First thing you see when you google people talking about the laser sight being gone in this game is people posting saying that its an upgrade in the game, usually in a very snarky way. Nowhere did I imply that people in this thread were saying it other than me replying to you, but my reply was more the initial part of you saying that the laser doesn't suck in the remake, when it very much does.
Skill issue
How is it a skill issue if your handicapping yourself and doing better?
Laser sight puts the weapon in constant focus mode. Increasing damage and critical chance It's a complete game changer I have no idea what possible reason you could have to think that it sucks when it's a significant upgrade to the weapon's performance.
