Do enemies just spawn infinitely?

I'm at the Valley location, and the enemies just seem to keep spawning. It's been a long time since I've played the original, but I don't remember them spawning like this . I'm playing hardcore mode so maybe that's why? I know this was the case in the village, but I didn't think it would be anywhere else.

Regardless it's pretty annoying. I don't know if I should keep trying to kill them in hopes that they will eventually stop, or if I should just brute force my way through the area

No, enemies do not spawn infinitely in the valley. There are just a lot of them.

I was thinking the same thing at the beginning of Chapter 2 after you leave the Merchant area. I kept killing them and they kept coming. Lol. Then I pulled up the gate and left. I guess that will stop them from spawning. Next time I will do that right away.

You can clear out the valley. It just seems infenitely because more keep coming from locations you already cleared. The best indicator for the area being clear is the background music.

A tip for easily(but slowly so not really a "pro" strat) clearing the valley: run into the first building on the left when you enter(you have to use the window), and don't unlock it's door so enemies have to use the window too and you can shoot them in the head easily. Sometimes the dynamite enemies will clear a lot of the others for you when you do this.
