Again, Dolby Atmos is a newer different Codec than normal Dolby / DTS 5.1 Channel
I disabled Atmos from my PC and tested 5.1/7.1. My receiver decoded them as Dolby Surround and all channels were working just fine. Maybe a config problem?
bruh, it works for me on every other game/app what so ever.
it is not my config or anything else, its the game.
But I think i found a fix.
If you are using the Realtek Audio Driver make sure you disable all sound effects under Enhancements. Do not just uncheck all individually, you need to check "Disable all sound effects".
Is it virtual surround for stereo devices?
If yes then you want to turn this off with DTS Headphone X.
When you turn on DTS Headphone X,
your stereo headphone will get exposed as 7.1 device.
So you want to set a ingame setting that allows true 5.1/7.1 output.
Which is the Home Theater setting, I guess.
But I'm not sure...
So HeadphoneX takes that 7.1 input sound it turns it into stereo virtual surround.
//edit
The 3D setting actually states that it uses the 3D Audio setting from the PC.
Is it still needed to set Home Theater setting to get the 7.1 output sound?
"3D Audio" activates the Microsoft Spatial Sound system. That's all it does. You need to turn it on in the Windows sound settings. Unless you buy Dolby Access or DTS Unbound, you can only use Microsoft's Sonic for Headphones.
The underlying sound API is the same, it's just that Dolby Atmos Headphone (or Dolby Atmos home theater output) or DTS Headphone replaces the Microsoft Sonic for Headphones.
If you don't use that, it just renders the audio to 5.1/7.1/2.1 etc. speakers. With it, 3D sound objects are placed in an imaginary sphere around the listener to allow for more accurate sound placement with the DTS/ Dolby/ Sonic HRTF headphone virtual surround... or an Atmos stream for your home theater Atmos setup if you bought the Dolby Access program.
I prefer DTS Headphone X on the "Spacious" setting. The RE4 menu indicates the 3D Audio is engaged because I selected DTS Headphone X from the Spatial audio properties of my audio output device. The crows sound like they are above your head. The chains hanging down sound like they are really wizzing by you. It's really good.
The updates last summer added it to RE7, RE2R, RE3R. No more "Atmos" setting. You need to buy the Dolby Access program and make sure the games say that the 3D Audio is on. Then the Dolby Access app encodes it to the home theater Atmos format (or to Dolby Atmos Headphone).
If your home theater receiver has DTS X, use the DTS Unbound app to make the game output to that format. Again, this activates the 3D Audio API and should be indicated in the RE4R audio settings page.
If you want to go down the rabbit hole, research the Microsoft Spatial Sound API.
To be clear, DTS Headphone X and Dolby Atmos Headphone DOES NOT just take a 7.1 feed from the game and apply HRTF for virtual surround headphone effects. It will just do that in games that do not support Microsoft's Spatial Sound system.
In Spatial Sound/ "3D" sound games, it takes the actual 3D position from within the game world and then applies the HRTF virtual surround headphone algorithms. So instead of sounds coming from a handful of virtual speaker locations, the sounds can sound like they are coming from anywhere on an imaginary sphere around the listener.
Now, not all game sounds are actually in an arbitrary 3D space. Most are still attached to "beds" - fixed locations like a traditional speaker location. It all depends on how Capcom mastered the audio. A good amount of sounds and even instruments in the music do use 3D positioning, and it sounds great.
What you need to do is use an HDMI output for sound. Then make that HDMI output the Windows default sound device. Then go into the sound settings for that HDMI device and tell it to use DTS Unbound or Dolby Access for the Spatial Audio settings. Now go into the Dolby Access app or DTS Unbound app and set it up to output to your speakers over the HDMI output device... This will encode the 3D audio data from the game to an Atmos or DTS X stream to be decoded by your home theater receiver.
Thx , gonna try that out later
I indeed use an unlocked Realtek Driver that can activate Dolby Surround / DTS via Optical. Been using that for years without a problem. Almost every game supports it.
It works with headphones.
this. Surround sound still not working for me.
This is not the first game I had issues with this setup. A Plague Tale Requiem also doesn't work using the optical output with the DDL patched drivers in the exact same fashion RE4 Remake does. You will only get an expanded stereo sound by using the optical output with DDL in these two games.
Here is a test: plug your headphone into the BLACK or the ORANGE connectors and go to the game and pan the camera. You'll hear either the surround from behind Leon (black connector) or only the voices from the center channel (orange connector).
