I see this "criticism" everywhere but it's not true, this game is much scarier than OG RE4, much more darker and gory, OG RE4 is almost cartoony compared to this.
Darkness and Gore not equal "scary". If you turn brightness to zero while playing "Postal 2" it doesn't make it the most horrifying game in existence.
Silent Hill 2 is one of the scariest games I ever played and many areas are well lit - it creates horror and the feeling of isolation using suspense, oppressive atmosphere and the amazing soundtrack.
Village section in this game looks like something from FarCry 4 and it is not scary at all, Verdugo fight is well lit with cool icy aesthetic and Leon constantly throwing out one-liners removes any attempt at atmosphere this game makes.
Again, game not being scary is not something I even care about - if the gameplay was good I wouldn't even mention it - it is 1/10 when it comes to my priority when criticizing this game.
If I wanted a good horror atmosphere I would've replayed "Evil Within 2" instead of buying Deluxe Edition of RE4 remake. It doesn't bother me at all.
Bruh, you are just wrong.
When I see people say OG RE4 is scarier than RE4make, I instantly know that opinion is not to be trusted.
Well, have fun with Evil Within 2.
And while I disagree with almost every point, at least this topic also has a couple of points that support the remake, for a change.
Notice how these kind of threads almost never pop up in actual bad games (like the recent RedFall), much less people will be giving jesters.
Hmm, your account has 13 years of service so you gotta be at least in your 30's now (unless you inherited the daddy's account).
To live this long on this earth and have no idea that suspense and atmosphere are much more important for fostering the feeling of unease than jumpscares, gore and complete darkness... I instantly know that your opinion is not to be trusted.
Let me guess, you thought that Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" was boring and all the cheap slasher flicks are the height of horror? I pity you, you've earned no points and God have mercy upon your soul.
I bought and 100%-ed this game, so I thought I might provide as fair criticism of it as possible.
I could've compared this game to other, better games, like Resident Evil Revelations 2, Evil Within 2, but I defaulted to comparing it to OG RE4 because it is one of the most formative games in the gaming industry, it popularized third-person shooters.
Tbh, the scariest game ever for me is Fatal Frame series, particular FF3. And that game literally has a grainy filter to it with barely any colors.
Play it sometimes, you will be sh*tting bricks.
I assume "Fatal Frame 3" has a lot more going for it than just "not being able to see".
I seriously wonder whether you are a blind fanboy defending multi-billion corporation to a product from which you attached your whole self-identity, or are you actually unable to comprehend how blind people can live in this world without being horrified all the time because unable to see = horror.
The game absolutely sh1ts on re4 in every single aspect besides action, Mikami knew that by catering to pubertat teenagers and dumbing the game down to the lowest common denominator simplyfying the camera, controls and removing any survival horror elements he can make Capcom producers RICH which he succesfully did.
And no, not a "blind fanboy", just a truth speaker. OG RE4 was heavily criticized for not scary, and RE4make did a lot of good trying to make it actually scary.
If you think the Shining and SH2 are some of the "scariest" movies/games ever, I assume you haven't watched any actual scary movies and games.
RE4Remake is top notch
It has the wavy sight, stealth, bullet spoongy/immortal enemies that need fire to kill, characters having inertia and panting when you run.
EW1 was originally made to be scarier RE4 by Mikami himself, and I feel maybe the staff that makes RE4make is inspired by EW1.
EW1 was very flawed, and they listened to all of the criticisms and fixed them in "Evil Within 2". It's an amazing game when compared to the first one. Play it, you will not regret it.
I mean what is the scariest movie you've ever seen? I accept recommendations. I never was extremely scared by movies.
When I was younger I watched every single "Saw" movie and loved them, no matter how trashy they were, but the real horror for me lies in a psychological aspect.
My favorites are:
The Thing (amazing 1982 version with unbelievable practical effects, not the garbage prequel with horrible CGI)
The Mist (2007)
The Shining (1980)
If you are into Visual Novels I would highly recommend the uncensored version of "The Song of Saya" - I think that is THE one SCARIEST thing I've ever experienced.
Scariest movies IMO:
1. Exorcist 1 & 3.
2. The Grudge series (particular the 1st one).
3. The Ring (japanese one).
4. Blair Witch Project 1.
5. Pet Sematary 1 (the 80s one).
Scariest video games:
1. Classical Fatal Frame series (FF1-3)
2. Project Siren 1 (the 2nd one is kinda goofy tbqh).
All of these are spooky *ss ♥♥♥♥, if you can't stand horror, watch/play them in day time.
