It's great at deleting enemy up close and can hit multiple target (and often kill them) in mid range. Striker is better if you just want to close your eye and hit everything in front of you but Riot is basically a cheaper magnum. Damage done is also based on how many pellets land which is why riot is better for taking enemies down.
Striker is great at hitting multiple enemies but not that good if the enemy is even slightly farther. Someone said that the ammo clip apparently affects ammo drop but I'm not sure if thats just because the adjusted difficulty only look at ammo in your inventory because its not uncommon for me to see the same amount of ammo no matter which gun I use.
They both fall in the shotgun category but they have completely different function. Striker is good for crowd control mid range but horrible damage unless its up close. Riot gun does consistent damage even from a distance and its great for deleting the brute thats sprinting at you.
Riot is more general purpose imo, can shoot farther, does higher damage, and imo the best kind of crowd control is when the crowd is dead before they can even get close.
