They just gotta play the on disc version that is slightly inferior? Like they'll have to deal with that heavy rain maybe? You can delete the patches for games most times in my experiences with the consoles. I mean, if they bought RE4R digitally on the consoles then they're left out I guess?
Edit: For example, I don't own a PS4, but I did play Bloodborne on one once. I was never forced to update Bloodborne before playing and never did. The PS4 wasn't connected to PSN though.
Was thinking on sharing it over here, but people simply get toxic and won't change their minds about speedrunning.
This video clearly explains that, as well as the current state of the game for them.
If they understood it they wouldnt be dumb enough to say that using glitches and skips is not "legitimate". Any% means using whatever means available within the base game to finish it as fast as possible (that's why glitches are allowed but DLC exploit content isnt, because dlc is not counted as part of the base game).
I'm not fond of any% category, but that's a me thing, but for peeps like me there's always the NMG/glitchless categories. Im actually more into 100% categories, just love the aspect of dominating everything in the game to go for every available content within a run.
From what the mods of the speedrunning discord says, you can still run the any% category on consoles, just its a huge stretch, basically you need to own the disk with the 1.0ver and never update that. Im not a console owner so I dont really know if you can play an unpatched game. But since they mentioned it, maybe you can? idrk
edit: you can still run the game on the current version in the any%, just that you def wont be able to beat the WR because that was done using the gate skip.
New Vegas for example allows the use of DLC in any% runs and many other games do that too
I am fully happy if they make a any% No DLC and a any% Yes DLC category
but on the current leaderbaord there is NO category allowing DLC (as of last week when I checked last)
I do not understand not running on assistend tho
allowing DLC tickets for the any% Yes DLC category and playing on assisted should save a good 3-4 mins on the current "any%" category
and yes Waifu is a very trusted person in the community
No. most newer games are done loadless where console is not at a major disadvanatge anymore and some games are run IGT (In Game Time)
but how it looks currently Console runners are forced into a different category
Console speedrunners regularly use imported carts and day 1 discs to get around glitch patches since forever, it's why speedruns have the version number listed as the category.
I wouldnt mind DLC as long as it was a different category, DLC is essencialy pay-to-win. So using tickets means you have an advantage over another player on the same platform. Basically forcing the player to spend further bucks only to be able to compete equally.
Seems fair as it is rn, same way you can't put NG players against NG+ using Ashley armor, bonus weapons and infinite weapons on the same leaderboard, its just plain unfair. So as much as you are not wrong you are not right either, is an extra advantage that you can only get from outside of the game by means not included in the main game.
As for not running on assisted is very simple, assisted is boring for some and some people like to up the challenge.
And who knows? maybe if by popularity and demand, having a DLC-allowed category might be possible, is just for that to happen there must be a decent number of people that accepts/enjoy the thing so that the mods will be able to accept runs of that kind. Its just a matter of running with dlc tickets not being interesting/sought out enough by the speedrunning community.
And also, you don't need to agree with the leaderboards, speedrunning is not something "official" like an esports competition where companies behind the game endorse that sort of thing. You can play the game and run it however you like and on your terms.
Back on RE Village I wouldnt agree on the 100% category rules for the speedrun.com so I went and played the way I thought was 100% that included collecting every item and clearing a room of loot from the map.
