Is Leon the only playable character in this?

I've never played any version of RE4 before. It's actually the only RE game I've never played at all. Like never even touched it before. So, I'm not sure what the content was like in the original game and how it differs or not in this remake.

I put a lot of hours into RE2 and RE3 Remake, but a lot of the appeal for those games was playing as Claire or Jill and having the spicier mods to play with. Extra bonus costumes from Capcom have been more and more disappointing with every game they release. If there were no mods to fix these problems then I wouldn't even consider buying the games.

Costumes add replay value. Sexier costumes just make the game more fun. Period. I was just looking at the Deluxe edition bonus costumes and that is not content that is going to help sell me on the game or a higher priced version. If anything it's more likely to make me not buy the game at all. Remember when there were things like Tribal Sheva that you could actually unlock in game?

Anyways, basically I just want to know if there's significant sections of the game where you can actually play as Ada Wong or Ashley? If not then I will skip the game for now and wait and see what DLC brings.

Pre-ordered both RE2 & RE3 Remakes and love them both thanks to costume mods and female playable characters. Bought RE7 and VIllage on deep discounts and didn't enjoy my time with either of them. Won't be buying RE4 Remake unless there's significant amounts of gameplay where you play as Ada or Ashley.

Right now, after looking at RE4 Remake my opinion is sort of if I want my "RE fix" I can just fire up RE2R or RE3R which has a ton of great mods and I can just enjoy those. They're all very replayable.

Hearing that this game censored Ashley just like they did Jill, and how Ashley is a strong woman who's just as capable as Leon or his "equal" (she's not and it's absurd to even say or think this), seeing the boring covered up deluxe costumes, and so on just doesn't make me want to buy this game.

Sorry for the longer than intended post, but Capcom just pisses me off nowadays and they're turning into a studio that I won't buy games from anymore because they're developing now with "Western Sensibilities" in mind it seems. I hate that and not worth spending my hard earned money on or let alone my valuable leisure time on those kinds of games.

You play as Leon for 99% of the game. Feel free to pass on this game if that's a deal breaker.

That would be something that would sell me on the game. Hope that happens at some point, but it sounds like this is an easy pass for me as it stands right now.

Mercenaries and Separate Ways (which is apparently getting expanded on) are going to be added as post-launch DLC. Mercenaries is going to be free, as for Separate Ways, I dunno.

There is a small portion of the game when you play Ashley, like in OG.

Appreciate the info. Mercenaries might be fun, but the last time I really played it was with RE5. I assume you'd be able to play as Ashley and Ada in Mercenaries, and Separate Ways is an Ada Wong campaign...

If those modes were in at launch this would have gotten a pre-order from me. Unfortunately, not the case. But, yeah, I'll definitely be waiting on this game now and will revisit it whenever the "Gold Edition" or whatever comes out and it's at 50% discount.

Capcom just isn't really doing anything here to make me say this is a product I need to play at launch for full price. There's always a ton of competition for your money and there's just not as much disposable income to go around for all these games.

Thanks for the info. I've never played the original so I don't know. I guess I would assume there was a small portion where you do play as her, but it's not significant at all it seems. I was hoping that maybe you'd see a portion that is closer to what you had with Carlos' section in RE3 Remake.
