Why remake has knife durability system?
Leon's a special agent. It'd be reasonable he can still fight without weapons. It was possible through the infinite knife in original.

Knife was a handholding mechanic for bad players.

That tiny thing is not a knife just ask the Aussies

Because it's not a knoife.
And besides you are able to carry multiple knives.

I don't like unrealistic mechanics like knives that break after a few uses.

Same with games like Dead Island or Dying Light. Machetes that needed constant repair or maintenance, otherwise they were finished after maybe ten enemies. Or the same weapon will break. Yeah sure a knife or machete that will break if you use a few times.

Those mechanics are nothing more than an abuse of the player's time.

Having said that, I will be buying RE4.

Doesn't matter if the knife is hand-holding. If that is so, then make the game different, while having a knife that acts like a knife.
Having a knife that breaks is the developers saying, "We didn't know how else to make it".

No. Tiny knives should not be that breakable.
Leon is not holding a tiny knife. You could gut an elephant with it.

Why can't Leon just pistol whip the enemies to death?
Tiny Trees Mar 18, 2023 @ 6:10am
Or pick up a fence post. Or one the meat choppers you see about the demo.

Because it was OP in the original game.
It was OP in RE2 too actually.

RE4 has a delay when the enemy falls up to when he gets up so you can easily kill them with one headshot and knife all over.

The RE2R had a thing where the knife causes 1 Damage per frame, play the game above 120fps and you kill most bosses with it.

RE4R is the same, the knife is absurdly powerful, so instead of nerfing it, they created a system that makes sure you can't use it all the time.

That's not a knife. THIS is a kni... oh it's broken.
I just hope we can unlock an unlimited durability knife like in the RE2 Remake, but hopefully it'll look Leon's knife from the original RE4.

Since RE2R Capcom still mixing some same mechanics used RE Engine. No worry about the knife due in game will have a reward to get a infinite knife and a DLC where you can get this reward and all others automatically.

So the problem is the script and engine fault. Maybe making the knife only to break boxes and stun enemies or even just to finish they after get down could be a better design.

I wouldn't be surprised if there will be a OP knife later in the game you can unlock with a ♥♥♥♥ ton of money like the OP gear in the original (1.000.000 for the C. Typewriter or infinite RPG etc)

Or at least thats what i hope. Would be a shame if they didn't include those again.

infinite durability would make the game way too easy; just escape with a stab every time you get grabbed.
