Whats the point with chromatic aberration?
In photography chromatic aberration either longitudinal or lateral have always been considered bad and photographers would often spend a lot of money on equipment to avoid those.
I mean just look at those images
https://photographylife.com/what-is-chromatic-aberration

its just awful halos around everything which make images appear blurry
so why would anyone want it in games?

With a google search I have found it gives the scenery a more cinematic feel, somehow

There is no point in it. Using noise and chromatic aberration in games is like using too much spice to make food taste better but it ends up tasting like ♥♥♥♥. I am just happy that they give us a choice to turn it off and don't force black bars like in the movies.

At least you can disable it easily here. There are games where it's locked under post processing so you either need to put that on Low and have a worse experience, or keep it on High/Ultra with CA. God, I hate those games.

just did a google search for games with CA always on
and saw a reddit post claiming FromSoftware does that
does that mean the super popular game Elden Ring also got it? and I've wishlisted it :cozyteddymoo:

What's with the obsession of wanting games to look like movies? I don't like the way a lot of movies look, even the ones that are modern that I DO like. Why would I want a game to look way too dark, with dialogue way too quiet, and the soundtrack basically explosions of noise going off in your ears because you turned the volume up to try and hear things?

I love chromatic aberration, don't like it just disable it lol...

and thats on top of them being "soulslike"? :tjhappytoast:
not thats a bad thing but CA plus hardcore difficulty would probably make a lot of players feel like true masochists

CA, Motion Blur and Vignette....worst thing that ever happened to gaming.

funny that you also mentioned vignetting and all three of those "features" are usually considered bad and must be avoided in photography because they would make images look unpleasant, of low quality or distracting. Maybe except for some very niche portraits. I would think most gamers would also want their games to look sharp with high level of details which I'm pretty sure CA would just make everything blurrier. Wouldn't playing on low settings give the same effect?

heres a great comparison between turning CA on and off in Alien Isolation

Because they are bad. For f sake no, human eye doesnt see a blur when you turn around. Crappy cameras do. Focus is again thing you only see trought camera lens and not with your eyes.
Props to campcom for advanced settings with visual aid so I can disable most filters.
