Still doesn't make the cutting existing content pratice good or justified. Among the other things people look forward to remakes to see their favourite bits of a game being recreated in a better and more advanced form, taking them off betrayes both the fans and the meaning of the word "remake" itself.
I mean i never said it was. Just that a lot of people are spouting that Capcom lied about it when they never did.
The only things that mattered to me that were cut was lava room, U3 and Separate Ways. Already explained by view on the last two. Everything else I can't bring myself to care about because of how much was added in place of it.
Where did they promise by chance? Do you happen to have a source? Genuinely interested. Sorry if you posted already. It's just 350+ comments doesn't look fun to shift through to see if someone posted it.
View my post about it. That's where the confusion came from:
Go play the HD version of the original on Steam instead of complaining here.
If you want to play the same game but better looking, just play the original and grab an HD mod. It's not going anywhere. The remake doesn't "betray the fans and the concept of remakes", or anything quite as dramatic as that. It's a different take on a game, that's all. I wouldn't be saying this if Capcom delisted the original game from every storefront as that'd imply that it's meant to replace it, but they didn't.
I'm also under the impression that you guys think that the definition of a remake is "the exact same thing, except better looking and with more Content™ " and anything that strays from this is automatically Bad™, and while it -can- be that (REmake 1, or more recently Dead Space come to mind), it's not always the case. Remakes are a spectrum. In movie terms, they can go from being the same thing shot for shot but with different actors (Funny Games) to being wildly different except from the premise and original concept (The Thing). We just got something inbetween, that's all.
i did NOT expect that to be a thing that carries over, but i am enjoying my time so far from the remake. aside from the background of a particular Luis Sera, i'm seeing every bit of this remake as superior to the original. Merchant is better, gunplay is better, the actual transition from campy action to survival horror is amazing without compromising the action intensity.
it just feels like a true goat atm. that being said, yeah. Sera was a red flag, and if you get to the discussion with Hunnigan after Mendez attacks you (love how they combined both that and the Ada window scene.) you'll know what i'm talking about, as that tidbit really hits far too early and really just feels shoehorned in to connect him to the original games. shoulda stayed as a "good for nothing guy, that happens to be quite the ladies man" a little bit longer.
If you make a remake of something old, respecting it's old content should be the top priority, and by respecting i don't mean to necessarely recreate the same extract thing with just better graphics, but even just have it in the remake with a, you guess it, a remade look, behavior and situation. Me and i'm sure everyone else who wanted the U3, didn't said we absolutely wanted the extract same original U3 or the extract same boss fight (that would have surely been great tho), we really would have been happy to just see it still present in the game, with a remade look that possibly still retained the original features to keep it's spookyness and a new kind of boss fight that reminded of the original while modernizing it and making it anew, THAT makes a good remake: make new stuff while being sure to respect ALL the content from the original, and not half like it seems to have happened here.
Cutting content entirely it's an insult to the original, the old fans, and i would add also the people who spent time creating that content back then, imagine spending a long time creating a genuinely nightmarish creature only to see it getting removed from the perfect opportunity at making it better years later.
They made Luis's arc better, i dont think they really cut anything there, really. It makes more sense now. Having that slightly different story makes it interesting, hence remake not remaster.
I do miss the incendiary grenades. Heavy grenades are awesome tho.
They should add a laser dodging sequence in separate ways or something, to make up for it. Less of a QTE thing and more of a duck/move/cover thing (with enemies around, getting sliced).
My biggest complaint is that they caved in to the loud minority of people screeching about the rain being heavy. I know this is an unpopular opinion on Reddit, but hopefully we can be adults about this here. Real rain can look like that if it's heavy enough. Fast falling objects naturally have a blur effect. And its a horror game, the atmosphere SHOULD be oppressive. They should have at least gave us an option to increase the heaviness if we want. But u cant even SEE the rain at all now. An example of "great rain" in a game people give me is CoD Vanguard's first level. But if you look at vids of that, it looks almost identical to the heavy rain in the RE4 trailers. Even the "longness" of the drops. So i think people were just trying to find SOMETHING to complain about, to sound intelligent, or whatever, or because they just can't be happy, because happiness isn't "cool" or something. Or they just havent seen actual heavy rain in their lives, and cant believe extreme weather exists.
I figure people are least likely to want that part to stay as faithful as possible and I'll put my cards on the table and say that if capcom don't phone it in and take shortcuts which is also highly possible *cough* RE3 *cough* alot of content like cut bosses or the question of where Ramon's other servant went could make Ada's story one we care about playing through more than once.
