Also Capcom never stated they weren't cutting any content at all, what was actually stated was this:

"The team was divided into independent subgroups, each given a different area to develop: the village, the castle, the island. These teams worked separately before their work was brought together to see how each overhauled element worked with the others to create a holistic experience. "Our approach was quite granular," Hirabayashi explains.

"Rather than saying, ‘Oh, this is a bit that we struggled to make in the original due to technological limitations that we can now perfect; we took a hundred individual, small elements that make up the original gameplay experience, and remade and polished those building blocks."

These quotes were meant to quell the rumors that the Island section was cut, but for some ungodly reason all the game journalists took these quotes and made headlines like "DEV CONFIRMS NO CUT CONTENT IN RESIDENT EVIL 4" spreading false information.

Still doesn't make the cutting existing content pratice good or justified. Among the other things people look forward to remakes to see their favourite bits of a game being recreated in a better and more advanced form, taking them off betrayes both the fans and the meaning of the word "remake" itself.
I knew...KNEW...they were gonna cut the U3 content. Those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥...

I mean i never said it was. Just that a lot of people are spouting that Capcom lied about it when they never did.

The only things that mattered to me that were cut was lava room, U3 and Separate Ways. Already explained by view on the last two. Everything else I can't bring myself to care about because of how much was added in place of it.

Good, most of them are not necessary, Ada may come later tho.

I am more worry about need 8 hours for Speedrun.
Pretty sure she's going to be paid DLC sadly.. I don't agree with that move.

didn't they promise they wouldn't cut anything ?

mhm but I am not surprised they would do this anyways besides I am not getting re4 remake anyways.
Where did they promise by chance? Do you happen to have a source? Genuinely interested. Sorry if you posted already. It's just 350+ comments doesn't look fun to shift through to see if someone posted it.

lius also survives and saves leon from krauser instead of ada in the knife fight and also they cut the dog
least I can tell you haven't played the game, because the dog is very much in the game, just moved locations

View my post about it. That's where the confusion came from:

ikr ? They still won't learn i guess...

This is the one remake they should not have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up with cut content. Seperate ways, and assignment Ada, the game is incomplete without them. I'm so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disappointed there isn't an assignment ada or seperate ways. Almost perfect remake.
The original gamecube version never had separate ways. It did however have assignment ada and mercenaries from what I remember.
I think you people want a remaster, not a remake. Remakes aren’t ever usually 1:1, which basically you all complain about. Capcom had to do some things differently in order to update the game to the modern era and make compromises, like getting rid of the “You Americans always in other people’s business” from the cops or the “women” line. Same for QTEs. It’s not 2005 anymore.

Go play the HD version of the original on Steam instead of complaining here.

If you want to play the same game but better looking, just play the original and grab an HD mod. It's not going anywhere. The remake doesn't "betray the fans and the concept of remakes", or anything quite as dramatic as that. It's a different take on a game, that's all. I wouldn't be saying this if Capcom delisted the original game from every storefront as that'd imply that it's meant to replace it, but they didn't.

I'm also under the impression that you guys think that the definition of a remake is "the exact same thing, except better looking and with more Content™ " and anything that strays from this is automatically Bad™, and while it -can- be that (REmake 1, or more recently Dead Space come to mind), it's not always the case. Remakes are a spectrum. In movie terms, they can go from being the same thing shot for shot but with different actors (Funny Games) to being wildly different except from the premise and original concept (The Thing). We just got something inbetween, that's all.

what's funny to me, is the original on Steam has the QTEs has X and C as the prompts for QTEs, but i also have C as crouch for the remake, so anytime i'm told to dodge, i see C pop up and it just feels so natural to press that.

i did NOT expect that to be a thing that carries over, but i am enjoying my time so far from the remake. aside from the background of a particular Luis Sera, i'm seeing every bit of this remake as superior to the original. Merchant is better, gunplay is better, the actual transition from campy action to survival horror is amazing without compromising the action intensity.

it just feels like a true goat atm. that being said, yeah. Sera was a red flag, and if you get to the discussion with Hunnigan after Mendez attacks you (love how they combined both that and the Ada window scene.) you'll know what i'm talking about, as that tidbit really hits far too early and really just feels shoehorned in to connect him to the original games. shoulda stayed as a "good for nothing guy, that happens to be quite the ladies man" a little bit longer.

If you make a remake of something old, respecting it's old content should be the top priority, and by respecting i don't mean to necessarely recreate the same extract thing with just better graphics, but even just have it in the remake with a, you guess it, a remade look, behavior and situation. Me and i'm sure everyone else who wanted the U3, didn't said we absolutely wanted the extract same original U3 or the extract same boss fight (that would have surely been great tho), we really would have been happy to just see it still present in the game, with a remade look that possibly still retained the original features to keep it's spookyness and a new kind of boss fight that reminded of the original while modernizing it and making it anew, THAT makes a good remake: make new stuff while being sure to respect ALL the content from the original, and not half like it seems to have happened here.
Cutting content entirely it's an insult to the original, the old fans, and i would add also the people who spent time creating that content back then, imagine spending a long time creating a genuinely nightmarish creature only to see it getting removed from the perfect opportunity at making it better years later.
They didn't cut the dog, assignment ada and separate ways are coming, according to reports, the rest of that list (besides U3) were the lest enjoyable parts anyway. QTE's (like the boulder) suck, if i want QTEs ill play Warioware Inc. or something. By cutting QTEs they improved the railcar sequence (which essentially replaces the cable car type experience, and is much funner).

They made Luis's arc better, i dont think they really cut anything there, really. It makes more sense now. Having that slightly different story makes it interesting, hence remake not remaster.

I do miss the incendiary grenades. Heavy grenades are awesome tho.

They should add a laser dodging sequence in separate ways or something, to make up for it. Less of a QTE thing and more of a duck/move/cover thing (with enemies around, getting sliced).

My biggest complaint is that they caved in to the loud minority of people screeching about the rain being heavy. I know this is an unpopular opinion on Reddit, but hopefully we can be adults about this here. Real rain can look like that if it's heavy enough. Fast falling objects naturally have a blur effect. And its a horror game, the atmosphere SHOULD be oppressive. They should have at least gave us an option to increase the heaviness if we want. But u cant even SEE the rain at all now. An example of "great rain" in a game people give me is CoD Vanguard's first level. But if you look at vids of that, it looks almost identical to the heavy rain in the RE4 trailers. Even the "longness" of the drops. So i think people were just trying to find SOMETHING to complain about, to sound intelligent, or whatever, or because they just can't be happy, because happiness isn't "cool" or something. Or they just havent seen actual heavy rain in their lives, and cant believe extreme weather exists.

dog is not cut , have you even played the game ? :D you can save dog from the trap near mendezes house and than dog comes in to help you fight first el gigante
I mean, i'm probably crazy here but i reckon they are saving some bits for the Ada DLC to spice up an otherwise throwaway addition to RE4 that if we're honest, most people don't recall too fondly, especially in comparison to main campain.

I figure people are least likely to want that part to stay as faithful as possible and I'll put my cards on the table and say that if capcom don't phone it in and take shortcuts which is also highly possible *cough* RE3 *cough* alot of content like cut bosses or the question of where Ramon's other servant went could make Ada's story one we care about playing through more than once.
