RE4 remake = Village?
I'm only a couple hours in but I beat the Village recently and it feels like I'm playing the same game except third person and with melee attacks. Did anyone else notice this?

It only gets worse.

It gets dumber and more 'action' than RE6, but unlike the good games in the franchise, takes itself dead serious.
You serious? :steamfacepalm:
There is a reason you don't trust guys who don't actually own the game the only thing he's serious about is trolling.

RE8 was a ripoff of original RE4. The village, the castle, the overall vibe. There's even a sea monster in RE8, and then mother Miranda who is female Sadler. I don't blame them. It worked. So no. Everything is thanks to the original RE4, which is a masterpiece.

The stealth is reminiscent of The Last Of Us which is bad because I didn't like that game at all, never even finished it.
I generally stopped crouching. I can sprint behind a villager and stealth kill them. Sometimes if they're around a corner I can sprint to them and "stealth kill" them from the front lol.
I love this game's stealth for that. Crouching is only there for hiding from sight. When it comes to sound they're not forcing you to crawl around like an idiot.

It's not like they ever said it officially, but it's really obvious that Village tested the waters for a RE4 Remake considering how much it took from 4.

That's the impression I'm getting. I don't condone sticking too closely to a winning formula but I understand its the 'safe' path for any business. And in this case, it seems to be working because I think both Village and RE4 remake are/were very successful. Maybe they'll make a new game called "Resident Evil: Chainsaw guy" and the whole game will be a ripoff of RE4 again, and it'll sell really well and garner critical acclaim, again.

Village it's only a small part of the game in RE4.
Veylox 13/abr./2023 às 10:41
RE8 tried to be a hommage to RE4, so obviously you're gonna notice similarities. RE8 still has that scripted RE7 feel though, where most of the game feels like scripted encounters rather than actual shooting action, gunplay feels weird, and the game leans towards making you skip a lot of fights to save ammo during your backtracking, RE2-style in the castle for example, while RE4 has almost no scripted story sequence and is all about the gunplay. You shoot things, things die, you loot ammo, repeat.

That's concerning. I prepurchased it (without playing the demo) but I still have less than 4 hours logged, maybe I should try for a refund?
You're not getting a refund, you're over 2 hours.

The similarities, for better or worse, are rather superficial. You have this and that that was also in RE4, but it all feels and plays completely differently. It's kind of like asking a not all that advanced AI to make you a copy of RE4 and it glues all the things it "thinks" RE4 is made of together, but you can tell it didn't actually understand what made RE4 RE4.

(As far as seeing RE8 as a spiritual successor to RE4 goes. I like RE8 for what it is, but it's simply not RE4-II just because it has treasures, a village, a castle and a merchant etc.)

Now I regret playing Village/RE8 at all. Seems like a cheap and unnecessary entry that only serves to diminish the value of an RE4 remake, but nobody seems to notice a problem with that except me. I can't say too much more until I actually play the RE4 remake. Maybe I'll fall in love with it like everyone else.
