Salazar boss fight... Am I the only one having trouble?
Playing on hardcore for my first run through, and I have to be honest, it's been a long time since I've been this frustrated with a game boss.

It really hammers home the main complaint I've had with this game so far: Leon's movement speed is glacial compared to the rest of the game. In fact, it feels like it's lifted from the Resi 2 remake and they couldn't be bothered balancing it for the new game. I honestly don't know how I'm supposed to keep up with a constantly moving boss with this awful movement speed, let alone figure out when or how it'll attack through the mass of badly animated tentacles, all the while listening to the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥ dialogue over and over because for some reason every bloody enemy in this game has be a bullet sponge and boss fights go on for an eternity!

Ok, whining over. But seriously, is there a trick to this fight that I'm missing? The acid attacks hit me no matter where I am, if I dodge an attack, the window for a counter attack is so small that by the time Leon puts the rifle scope to his eye the boss is so far away it's in another time zone, and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ RNG on the loot is so borked it's left me with about eighty grenades but no bloody ammo for my shotgun. Help!

If you have good aim and a Gold Egg you can toss that at the start and then unload on him while he's stunned.

I say good aim but it took me like 5 tries even though the throwing arc was on him.

Could always try this and some magnum rounds to the head or just buy the rpg. Otherwise yeah he's a lot harder in the Remake than his original. The fact that he gets free movement in the air and summons adds is stressful.

Yeah this ^
You can actually get a Golden Egg pretty frequently from Ramon's throne room (the place with the big pit the Verdugo threw you into)

Salazar is the worst boss fight in the game. I killed him once in the regular way then beginning at my second time I started using the eggs.

He is pretty annoying indeed. I'd camp the left staircase and try to keep LoS there. After most attacks you should have a small window to shoot him with the rifle. Watch out for all the landmines he ♥♥♥♥ out. Once you knock him down once, you should be able to do like 60% of his health down by just gunning him down with the shotgun or magnum.

You can buy the mine thrower for this boss too if you want. It does not need to be upgraded. At the start of the fight you can shoot a mine on his "body" and it will knock him down. When he gets back up, you can mine him again to knock him down one more time. A mine round is guaranteed to knock him down, but after the first two hits, It's kinda hard to hit him in the mouth again with it since he's dancing all over the room.

You can also golden egg, but I'm assuming you sold it already.

Couldn't agree more! (I did my first playthrough on Hardcore also.)

The golden egg strat is now meta, but should not be the defense for this boss battle. It gets better on repeat playthroughs, yes, I get it. However, on the first playthrough, Salazar's quick movement and damaging moves (not to mention his 1HK taken from the OG) can drive people crazy, chiefly due to Leon's slower movement. I am one of them haha.

Don't let him get up for a second time because in stage 3 he goes berserk with the land mines and pooping and his speed increase is nuts, Spam your powered-up Magnum when he is stunned; make sure to finish him off during the second stun unless your cruising for a bruising.

What I did was shoot him enough until he goes down once and equip the golden egg and throw it at his face and he dies pretty much, game over.

For me I just did what I always do on RE 4. Bolt Action Rifle to weak spots.

For me when he exposes himself I shoot him with the rifle, he'd fall down and then I stabbed him. Repeated until he died.

Saddler later on is even easier definitely if you upgrade the Bolt Action Rifle all the way by then, it's an absolute mini boss / boss killing machine. lol

Considering all the banter they recorded for that fight, the devs expect it to go on for quite a while.

Speaking of Boleros, it's a bit annoying how that's literally the only thing people remember Maurice Ravel for.

aka. The arthritic snare drummer's worst nightmare.

Or else, they think of Zelda Death Mountain.

edit. Considering how he died, maybe there were brain plagas involved and it was covered up...

Use bolt action without scope, run around the left section, until salazar does one of his spit attacks, thats where he lets himself open for 1-2 shots. The only REAL challenge is to pay attention for the mines while keeping an eye on his one hit kill attack. I've done the same tactic on all difficulties (standard, hardcore and pro) and it works very well.

Or if you have 2 golden eggs, throw them at his weak point and you win.

Probably the hardest boss in the remake. Salazar is a bit better designed, at least; in the original he was kind of boring. Unload TMP onto the eye, rifle or magnum when exposed, GG EZ.

Ironically, Saddler is much easier than the original if you just run up to him and knife the underside. You'll need a few healing items for the unavoidable slam damage, but I killed him quicker with the fighting knife than I did a full arsenal.

OG salazar is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boss fight. It has QTE's on top of QTE's. That means if you dodge one qte the other which can come right after the other can ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hit you. I never fought og salazar without the rocket launcher, i can't be arsed.

Trust me, I know hes annoying, but take a breath and don't get mad to the point that it makes you make stupid mistakes. Pick your shots, take your time, you'll get him. Stay near the stairs and the pillars, don't hang out in the open.

Or go underneath the walk way and throw a gold egg in his face, twice if you saved them. But make sure to "equip" it, and not use it.
