Did anyone else just not use a magnum?

I honestly didn't even use the magnum on my first play through, the skull shaker (I know dlc weaponry but the inventory saving was too juicy to resist) and bolt action rifle were all I needed to get through the game.

I didn't. And it comes as a shocker, right? Magnum has always been this elite boss killer weapon you've been saving ammo for the whole game.

But they kinda broke it with the crafting system, which makes pistols, shotguns and magnums compete for S resources. As a result, Riot Gun is all the magnum you need. Or the Skull Shaker in your case.

I only used the magnum when I bought killer 7. I didn't expect broken butterfly not to be lying in the castle.

It's a boss weapon pretty much. That and on at least standard difficulty, it basically one shots the big claw guys, so it's helpful for that to deal with them quickly. It doesn't take up enough space to make me worry about keeping it around.

Real problem is all the magnum ammo you get off the random drops even when you don't have a magnum on you. You can get it in the random pool as early as chapter 7's first boxes with the merchant. Probably got 20 magnum ammo in my HC minimalist run before I just stopped selling them to intentionally manipulate the RNG so they'd stop spawning.

i never use magnums, even in the original. i only ever use a handgun, rifle, and shotgun

I only use the magnum to "soften" mini bosses, and kill main bosses.

I generally only use the red9, riot gun, and bolt rifle or stingray, but on my last run I used the magnum and a golden egg to kill salazar.

17 gunpowder for 3 magnum shots when crafting is expensive af, so i only ever rely on RNG drops for them, and for boss killing. Gunpowder feels more valuable for rifle and shotgun ammo tbh.

I didn't on my first run, i had the exclusive upgrade for the Bolt Action with everything maxed out and it basically was able to fill pretty much the same role as a Magnum.

Exactly if you hit a weak spot with a fully upgraded bolt action shot that does 30 damage, even in the original game I always felt like the bolt action was better as a boss killer for this reason.

No, I waited to get the free magnum from the castle, which I ended up either missing or which hasn't been added to the remake at all.
