Land of the Dead (2005) is probably the earliest I can think of that being a thing.
But, even with that considered, RE4 and REmake 4 don't have Zombies.
Kinda wish they kept that line for clarity's sake.
I mean, the enemies look pretty normal, are moving around normally and can talk. I uh, think it's pretty clear.
Ganados are closer to the classic voodoo zombie, look it up.
I think "zombie" kinda bacame a generic naming for agressive-mindless-humanoid-creature-thing by the common sense.
BUT, as Vagrant said, the ganados can actually be called "zombies" considering the "voodoo zombies"
TLOU infected on the other are never referred to as zombies, but they are defiantly zombies in function. Ganados have more of a Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibe.
They're not in game, but mostly by the media.
Thanks for using Body Snatchers as reference. It suits more the ganados behavior (and it is a good movie)
