It would be like COD World at War Zombies.
Most of the time you're playing with a friend, not a random stranger, not sure why you'd wanna do that.
not to mention nobody is forced into co=op. in rez 5 you could play solo if you wanted to.
i dont know a single game where you're forced to play Co-Op
Also, I think it detracts from the survival horror elements with all those games I've listed. Harder to be scared with a second person (com or not) that is shooting enemies with me. Luis's segment in RE4R for example, incapable of being scary just with his presence there.
I do agree with the horror element. Probably why they took it out for 7 onwards.
The AI could just be taken out, like in Halo.
Makes the story kind of wonky when you do that, but it can sorta work. Either narratively ignore P2 all together. Or inversely ignore their lack of presence, like Dead Island where every character is in the cutscenes even in solo gameplay.
