Mercenaries with Family Sharing?

I am playing from a friends shared library and it seems that because of this I can't play the mercenaries mode. If I go to 'Download' on the store page it just boots the game as normal and I can't add the DLC to library because I don't own the game.

Anybody know a way around this?

This is either Capcom's fault for not integrating the DLC in the actual base game, or Valve's fault for not making Family Sharing detect separate free DLC. Can we just go email Valve to change this?

but they disabled family sharing on this game? My kids can't play it, hence why each computer needs it's own copy

This was intentional, previous capcom games like Monster Hunter and other RE Games have had this issue where Family Share was being abused by third party apps, in order to prevent those for using this. You have to physically own base games now to download DLC (even free ones). This was done with MHW back in the day as well. It is a preventative for Family Sharing and Green Luma, until Steam can't stop GL.

The game itself does have family sharing, I played it through that. It's the mercenaries dlc that doesn't.

bro couldn't they have done it for the paid dlcs then or somtn? whytf is it free ones?? holy hell me and my friend split 50/50 moneys on this thinking it was all gonna be working with family share anyway and now they do this. bro i aint ever spending a penny on capcom bs with their baiting sh1t. I woulda rather seen the game without family share at all then so I can just avoid buying it alltogether rather than getting baited into thinking it has family share.

then why don't they disable family share on their games entirely ? it makes no sense , they disable it for free to play dlcs

My guess is that Capcom is still not aware of this issue since it rarely gets talked about (we're in the minority). It's just how Valve designed family sharing to not detect free DLCs as opposed to paid DLCs that are purchaseable. It happens in other games like Car Mechanic Simulator where free DLCs can't be redeemed with family sharing.
