Just a few games I like better:
Nioh 2
Elden Ring
RE: Village
To say it's definitively the best game of the 2020s (so far) might be a bit of a stretch though.
Still, I think in the 2020s, Nioh 2 is my favorite.
Nioh 2 is amazing too.
Oh and I forgot Doom Eternal came out this decade, very early 2020, that's a contender too.
Don't get me wrong, I love RE4R, and it's an easy contender for GOTY for me so far, but I don't think I'd call it the definitive best game of the decade thus far.
tl;dr: play it a few more times and maybe the rose tinted glasses will wear off, it happened for me.
I mean look at the unlocks you get through playing... ten sets of glasses.. a winter hat, a chicken helmet, costumes are standard, standard without a jacket, story costume#3.
Maybe I'm just mad right now, I will definitely give it some more time and collect all my thoughts before I write a final review on the game. Do not get me wrong, I love the franchise and I am generally very happy with Capcom's content of recent years.
I am also very excited for the Mercenaries release. I really liked their take on the mode in RE8. Wonder what they might come up with for RE4. Whether they innovate or stick to the basics. Whatever comes out might tip the scales for my personal score and view of the game as a whole.
That's a tough one mate. We're talking about 2013-2023 or 2020~2030? Elden Ring is clearly in the running but eh that's way too difficult. From the first moment on until now, I still believe that RE4R definitely deserves GOTY nomination if not winning it for this year. Undoubtedly, there is a ton of love that went into making RE4 and I can clearly see and feel it.
I'm not all up to date on what we might end up seeing this year. Diablo 4 will be good but not GOTY status IMO.
For times like these I wish I had a detailed gaming log / journal to really dig into the question for a serious take. The gaming scene is very though because there are thousands of releases per year in all varying genres. However, it is true that only a select few do stand out strongly. What would come to mind for me is the RE series starting with 7 and all the great remakes, Final Fantasy perhaps, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Elden Ring.. You'll get different takes depending on who you ask. And who knows what the future holds. Maybe Capcom will do something just as crazy for their upcoming 30 year RE anniversary in 2026
Sorry for digging up the thread again after you closure wish, but I just wanted to get this last one off my chest.
Its a rolling simulator with weird ass enemies and a story that just feels uninspired. When I saw a giant cauldron, a pot used for cooking soup, come to life and attack me I just rolled my eyes and thought "this is the crappiest thing I have ever seen". Most bosses will kill you in one hit unless you spam into health and you'll end up dying 30 times per boss due to a combination of finding their patterns/their absurd damage output
Either i'm missing something here, or the majority of video gamers became masochists because Elden Ring and Souls games in general do NOT appeal to the everyday person
