Oh come on! Laser sight is only for two starter guns?
I thought you could buy them as upgrades but no, its only for two pistols that quickly become outclassed. Thats crap.

All pistols are viable and the SG09 is one of the best with the exclusive upgrade.
Maybe play the game first.

yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, sucks right?
Three guns if you count the Sentinel 9

It was to show the different features of different guns, mostly handguns. Basically, the lser sight now is for handguns that are "low damage", while the other three handguns which have more DPS need to deal with less accuracy.

Leaving aside how innacurate the Red 9 and TMP are, I say it's actually a good change (mostly for shotguns as now we have a reticle that shows the spread of the pellets).

Ahem. Sentinel 9 is a beast with enhanced crits. It's fully automatic, pinpoint accurate and critically headshots 1/3 of its shots with a massive magazine. Upgrading that thing makes it awesome. The only downside is the recoil but if you use it up close, it's almost as good as the Blacktail.

Punisher has good all around stats and pierces enemies allowing for headshot stuns across multiple targets at long range. Also the best handgun to run and gun with. Again, a wonderful weapon.

Blacktail has a tiny mag and low accuracy but it's also a machine pistol that hits like a truck with the smallest size in the game. It's designed to be used at close range as a situationally useful weapon. It's still good in its role if that's your playstyle even if it got nerfed from the original game where it was completely OP. It's a close-range weapon when the other handguns are for mid-long.

Red 9 needs the stock to be usable but it also hits around as hard as a point blank shotgun shell. It's still a good weapon. You need to time your shots with it and stand still to use it but it's also a fantastic weapon.

SG-09 also has the highest critical multiplier when fully upgraded. It's a headshot machine that's actually viable against mobs.

They arent clear cut winners either. Based on this stat sheet:
https://i.redd.it/ecow3073d2ua1.png

damage per seconds with crits:

Blacktail 8,55
Red9 5,61
S9 6,46
SG 5,17
Punisher 4,21

Blacktail and Red9 show unfocused dps
SG/S9/Punisher use focused dps because of laser.

Also damage per shot (all focused):
Blacktail 4
Red9 4,6
S9 3,2
SG 3,4
Punisher 2,2

Though something can be said for the ability to have a decent chance of landing one shot kills with the SG and S9 so they are more valuable vs regular Ganado's than what the raw damage stats imply.

Note: The laser sight makes the handgun shots "fully focused" all the time, so with it you get a little bit more of stagger and crit rate.

Honestly, the fact that the laser sight is usable by the SG-09, the Sentinel 9, and the Punisher is exactly what makes them all pretty top-tier handguns.

I'm mainly using the blacktail but I fell to the hype of S09 being OP so I gave it a try for some time.

My conclusion is that the blacktail mops the floor with S09. Enemies were falling much more easily with the blacktail. Maybe the hype comes from the original's crit = instakill mechanic which is no longer the case.

Also note: Both SMGs are straight upgrades over all pistols so you could just ditch pistols and use an SMG in their place, instead. They have superior ammo economy per total dmg from resources / looted ammo, they work fine for headshots and even range shots if you just tap for single / burst as necessary, the TMP staggers much better while the LE 5 has even better ammo economy then the already busted TMP due to penetration stat. They provide higher DPS, the TMP may have abnormal crit rate (do not take my word for it, its something I've noticed but not tested to verify if coincidence but on pro its killing far more frequently than I would expect in a 1-2 bullet headshot, not even burst firing for overkill). SMG also has crafting benefits and potentially bugged crafting rates causing far higher than usual (I've gotten bonus now like 11/17 crafts as long as crafted a single time and when very low on SMG ammo, 1 smg charm being used atm).

Keep in mind if you do want to use a pistol while the Blacktail does not have a laser if used at close or mid range it performs extremely well. Meanwhile, the S9 and SG are incredible with their exclusives for dealing with plaga's huge health pools (though an argument could be made Blacktail > humans and if plaga spawns > use rifle/shotgun for it is arguably more efficient if you can line up multiple targets at same time) and reliable accuracy while keeping your distance if you prefer more distance.

Its not instant kill in the original game or this game but rather a large dmg multiplier. Someone tested and found it to be 3x for pistols I believe. Due to the dmg being so high it "appears" as an instant kill. This can also help with the "overkill" mechanic that prevents plaga from spawning if the fatal dmg caused was high enough to reach the overkill threshold causing no plaga to spawn. The rifle is the most reliable way to overkill, though, aside from obvious wasteful use of magnum. In the OG it also effected melee attacks giving all melee attacks crit chacne boost (knife included). Someone tested in the remake and the melee crit perk carries over again https://www.reddit.com/r/residentevil4/comments/12g981k/re4_remake_damage_system/

I was in the SG fan club, but then figured that Blacktail is a more consistent and effective weapon

I never noticed this. I never had an issue targetting an enemy thou so maybe that's why. Is the red dot kinda pointless thinking about it?

Besides more accuracy it gives a little boost to critical and stagger rate, because the shots with laser sight count as fully focused all the time.
