Knife Slashing vs Stabbing: whats more effective?
Is the only difference just range of attack but DPS is still the same?

Neither, they both suck. Use a gun. Exception obviously being the mandatory Krauser fight where stabbing is far more effective plus more likely to stun him.

For breaking boxes and crates though? Stabbing definitely.

Slashing is a small AoE, stabbing is faster and single target. Both do the same damage per hit I believe. If you're surrounded by enemies you shouldn't be knifing anyway so I'd say stabbing is better.

Unless you are using all max Fighting Knife, there's no way you can stab and slash enemies without expecting to eat an axe to your neck. Fighting Knife all max has enough attack power to guarantee always hit stun on basic human ganado once you acquire it on Chapter 15.

Except Garradors / stealth insta kill / basic human ganado knife insta kill, all knife qte are affected by knife attack power. You can flash chainsaw dude in Chapter 1 then proceed to one shot it with Fighting Knife all max throat slit knife prompt.

Please don't tell us you need someone to spell this out for you.

I don't have anything to back this up but the fighting knife maxed out while stabbing seems to penetrate more when I knife regens. It might just be doing enough damage to stun but I couldnt do it with any other knife.

Fighting knife might have a bigger hitbox, seeing as how it's literally bigger.
