Why does this game have decapitation?
After the original RE4, Capcom stopped allowing decapitation, at least decapitation of main characters. For a long time, RE games did not have decapitation. But this game brings back decapitation, as Leon can indeed have his head chopped/ripped off.

Why is this? Did they finally get over it and realize it's not that bad?

I think because of game engine limitations and Japan censorship's and other Countries strict laws about video game violence.

Didn't really answer the question.

I think that what FEAR said makes sense. They just probably started doing two diffrent versions. I suggest watching differences between global and japanese versions of resident evil 7

You own the game.

Play it to find out.

How is playing the game supposed to answer my question...?

I misread.

I retract my statement and give this instead. Your question is pointless and no one here can actually answer it as capcom employees don't post here.

This was not the case for previous several games, they were censored everywhere.

Since RE7 they decided to release 2 versions of their RE games. The uncensored version, which releases in most countries and has all the gore intact, and the censored version, which is in Japan (and maybe other countries like Germany, IDK), where gore like decapitations is outright illegal.

Why did the decide to do this now? Who knows.

They already did different versions for the original RE4. Best answer to the question here I can give is that it's a remake and they tried to keep it close to how it was.

RE7 is uncensored it Germany as far as I can tell.

Removing decapitations was a huge mistake. A form of censorship. I'm glad it is back.

It needs to be waaaay more gory.
I've been playing some RE2 and I way prefer the normal zombies.

I'm kinda glad that RE6 brought zombies back proper, here's hoping the next game will be CV remake.

Yes, how Resident Evil Village did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkzRvZJffx4

They brought it back because it was part of the original game so they had no choice... it was an iconic death and probably the first one any player ever actually saw because it was instantaneous.

Also, they didn't even bring it back in full force, the original RE4's decap animation was way more gruesome and lingered much longer than it does in the remake so your statement is kind of generalized... they didn't really bring it back, they censored it heavily.

Also half the kills were removed from the original 2005 version because a lot of content was cut in the remake... like the guillotines, among other context sensitive kills.

Crowbcat was right, after all.
