Is RE4 as hard as RE2?
Hello! I have played RE2 remake on hard and even though it was a cool experience, I felt like it was way too stressful for me personally.

The main aspect which made it so hard was the constant lack of ammo throughout the whole game. I would like to be able to shot a bit more rather than avoiding every fight possible. I didn't mind other aspects like the amount of damage you take, amount of herbs or limited saves. Didn't even shot this rakoon figures, cause one bullet is way too precious.

So a question to people who have played both RE2 and RE4 remakes on hard difficulty. Are they approximately equally hard, especially in terms of lacking ammo?

Hardcore first run on RE4 remake may actually be a bit harder than RE2 Remake Hardcore. I would say normal difficulty on this game is almost on par with the level of difficulty I experienced with RE2 Hardcore.

In re2 you can run through nearly everything. Zombies there dont have magnetic super grab powers even tho they can grab too. Re2 is a pure survival horror game where lack of ammo is one of it's features that can be circumvented with unlocks and cheats.

This one.. is ACTION (horror in very very small letters) survival. This game has a dynamic ammo drop system.. while it's possible to run out of ammo or better said.. to have not enough ammo for certain encounters. There is plenty of ammo and crafting mats.

The thing you do the most in this game.. is shooting stuff in the head.

That said. It's far harder than re2 (on hardcore and professional). More enemies.. more annoyances.. slightly more janky controls. Enemies aren't as tanky tho.

It's also a lot of more fun in terms of gunplay.

You should get it if you liked re2 but wanted more gun action. This one is for you.

Yes, I will definitely get it, as original RE4 is one of my favorite games ever, but wanted to ask around to determine which difficulty to chose :) From the replies it seems that Normal will be suitable and still challenging. RE series in general is different from most of the modern games in terms of difficulty, it's more old school I feel. BTW, if you have played both original and remake of RE4, how are your impressions? I have seen somewhere that in remake they have removed QTE, which is hard to imagine, because most of boss fights in original heavily used QTE mechanics.

They removed traditional QTE yes. But this one has parry instead. Which is a fancy new way of ingame qte in this game imho. You have a short window of parry frames to parry certain attacks.

Well... the ingame tootip for hardcore difficulty says "it's for people who played the OG". But it's misleading af. Since the games mechanics are far to different compared to the OG.

We had a flood of people here complaining about the fact that hardcore isn't for people who played the OG but for people already knowing the new game from playing on normal instead.

It's hard but possible. My Advice as someone who loves both games.. OG and this one. Play on standard. Play through hardcore on ng+ and play through professional on a new save. For the juicy unlocks and cheevos.

If you still have questions. Dont be afraid to ask.

Also.. for some bosses... the parry window is more generous. Since like you said. In the OG we needed some qte to dodge certain attacks.

The one and only boss that is problematic with that change is... El Gigante.. for obvious reasons. Thats why 2 of the best strats there are.. super aim with high damage like upgraded bolt action rifle (it's awesome in this game) to kill it within a couple of seconds.. or huggin the butt ^^. You will see what I mean... once you are there.

Haha, yeah, I see some threads complaining about El Gigante. Was actually planning to use bolt action rifle, since I didn't really use it in OG, so glad that it's effective here.

Thanks for your answers! I think I will like this game a lot :)

Yeah, I wouldn't necessarily call this one easier just because it gives you more ammunition. It does so because you need it. Both games require you to know how to make good use of your resources and especially on harder difficulties, you should have some idea of how to handle situations efficiently.

RE4 is faster paced and I'd say it's more forgiving on Standard than RE2, but on Hard and higher, it's just as demanding if you don't know it yet.
