Anyone else with a 4gb gpu experiencing awful slowdown despite being under the max threshold?
I have played this game on my 1650 Super as well as currently on an RX570 both with 4gb vram and the game is great as long as I keep all settings to medium (minus the few without a medium option which i set to high and of course hair strands is off and ssr as well as motionblur and CA) minus the textures which I have to set to low no matter what if I want generally better looking graphics. Now I used msi afterburner and riva tuner to view my vram utilization and if I cross over 3600mb vram the game drops frames terribly despite the in game reading saying it should be less than 3gb. I use to be able to play re2 remake and 3 at well above the vram recommendation with no issues. I am about to test razer cortex and run the game without rendering my desktop and am going to try and free up as much vram as possible because im assuming windows is using up the rest choking the games performance. Any other experiences like this or have you found or you found a fix feel free to let me know! Thank everyone :)

I was always under the impression that the in game readings weren't exact.

I have my Presets set to Balanced and it shows 3.63/3.28 GB. So that 3.63 is always shown as red. Looking at PC Specifications, it clearly shows my usage is under that.

Disregard in-game VRAM meters. They aren't accurate and even if they were, they tell you nothing about how the game will actually run. The amount of VRAM is the least important factor when it comes to VRAM.

yea mine willsay im below my riva tuner readings but the weirdest thing is sometimes it will be maxed out at 3.9gb vram or 3.8 but it will still be running at fulls speed but if it hits 3.6gb it will slow down. Its very strange indeed.

I have 6 GB's of VRAM, but the game says I only have 5.something. Wonder if it's a bug.

Well I can get a very playable 60+ fps experience with the textures set to low but despite the fact that my vram isnt being maxed out the game will still exhibit drops as if the vram is maxing out and swapping.

The VRAM isn't the problem, there are some settings that are just more demanding than others, you should try changing all of them one by one until you find the culprit. An outdated CPU could also be the problem. I don't know the rest of your PC.

I have done that and the only setting that makes my fps drop to 20 for long durations is texture quality other options may make the game run worse overall but none of them cause the performance to drop to unplayable settings unless of course i cranked everything to max but im not doing that. Also I have turned everything to low other than texture quality and the game would still exhibit the same framedrops and considering the fact tons of other people had vram issues with the game that was of course my first assumption and seeing my framerate drop when passing a certain vram amount through riva tuner and testing this with changing said setting I was able to prove pretty easily that with this game in particular if I hit 3.6gb vram in game it drops to very low fps. Turn textures down it goes down to 3.3 and runs amazingly.

Then maybe it's another part of your PC that's not quite good enough, but I don't know the rest of your PC.

The VRAM is important in this game. Disregard what other users in this thread write about ignoring VRAM. Basicly if you set textures too high the GPU will experience slow-downs when it will hit it`s VRAM limit. I have 6 gb card and if I set textures higher then 1gb I will experience fps drops. Also search for tests of RE 4 online: it is a known issue and there is nothing you can do expect go and buy new card

after testing a lot I found a good peformance level im comfy with by using the balanced preset i get 30 - 60 fps with no vram related drops and the game looks good as well as if I want over 60 the performance option with no resolution scaling works great. I found part of the issue I was having was that with the medium texture settings the game would drop to 20fps but not with high. So I guess maybe those two options that being the medium .25 and.50 may be a little bugged for my game. Thank you for speaking with reason btw I was disregarding the other comments from the start because ive put 6 hours into testing this game and I knew from the beginning it was a vram related issue its just a little touchy feely lol. Thank!
