Cat Ears are dumb

Why couldn’t it have been a more aesthetically pleasing item with a military theme that offered this infinite ammo perk rather than the cat ears?

Because using infinite ammo makes you a pu$$y. ;) But seriously would be neat if it wasn't cat ears. I like the infinite ammo cat ears for messing around on pro. It is fun. I just got use how goofy it looks. I guess it is a way for the devs to remind you that you are basically cheating the game.

Looks aside, I wonder why the cat ears don't grant unlimited ammunition for the bolt caster. Not that you'd need it that much at that point, but it's still a little weird to just randomly have it not work on one of the weapons.

I like to use Cat Ears to get extra money by selling extra ammo and stuff.

Because if you use the bolts in a regular mode, you already have virtually unlimited ammo, because it's reusable. You just have to be careful with your aim.

You can download a mod that removes the headgear that have bonuses. I think it's dumb that there isn't a way to hide it in the game's settings but at least there is a way.

And if you're careful with your aim, you find more bullets than you use, making them virtually unilmited, too. So what's the point here? And what's the harm in simply making it actually unlimited like the rest? The whole point of unlimited ammunition is that you need not be careful with your aim and resources. "It's already unlimited if you're careful"? Yeah, I wear the cat ears so that I don't have to be careful. You're basically saying it would have a good use to make it unlimited to explain why it isn't needed.

Besides, the few times I tried it, the getting the bolts back thingy didn't work reliably and then there's the mine darts, too ... we don't get those back at all.

(Just to make this clear, I'm not complaining. I only use the bolt gun in combination with the mines in specific locations anyways and there's more than enough, especially if you don't need the resources for other ammunition. Just think it's weird.)

Could be that during development they discovered that cat ears granting unlimited ammo to bolt thrower would break the game and decided it wasn't worth taking the time to fix it. It can be just that simple. Or they just didn't want granting the player with unlimited explosives for free.
