Dog or Wolf?

Some people says it's a dog, but he howls when he comes to help leon against the el gigante. At least for the original re4 I always thought he was a wolf. PS: I don't care that he restores some health for the giant.

Leon literally says "Hey its that dog" in both the remake and original. Seems entirely pointless and unnecessary for the developers to have Leon misidentify an animal.
