Too be fair. It's a story as old as time. I remember internet spats about a decade old where people thought CoD should just completely toss it's engine and start from scratch too.

The only grain of truth to this logic is if the coding language itself is fundamentally flawed. Java edition Minecraft for example. Java is a bad foundation for building too high upon. Unoptimised when you do that. Minecraft needed to be rebuilt in C++, the bedrock version, to run better.

The RE Engine is probably one of the most optimized engines I've seen, I don't know about you but I'd prefer being able to actually play a game rather than get picky on graphics

Yeah this lmao
Looks and performs worse than the previous game in the series. It has many issues on the technical side and seems like pc version is not getting any updates soon too. You get cyberpunk tier performance for ps4 graphics but yeah RE Engine is soooo optimized.

Re Engine is amazing and one of the better things Capcoms done over the years
This dude doesn't know about game engines and it shows.
RE Engine has been producing masterpieces and not buggy infested releases like so many games nowadays. What are you even on about? You should be complaining this to Todd Howard, not here. 💁🏻‍♂️

The difference between your statement and OP's is palpable. You provide an example, a simple yet understandable technical explanation, and do it calmly. OP is in a pitchfork&torch mode because beautiful games look alike.
What's better?

1. A brand new engine that looks incredible, takes millions of dollars and many months to build, has 1000's of land mines (unknown bugs) waiting that will take years to fully uncover and fix, and developers have to learn how to use it from scratch, making new games take longer to make
2. An engine that looks really good, and has 6+ years of internal updates, optimization, stability improvements, bug fixes, developer familiarity

If you picked 1, you are wrong

This. 6 years worth of documentation on the engine alone is good enough reason to stick with it. Besides, every big engine today is getting updated. Unreal Engine 5 is an update (albeit a huge one) to the UE4. Just like Village uses an updated version of RE7's engine, and it shows.
Do you believe game developing engines are one big app that stays the same from beginning to end? It's more like a set of tools, programs and routines that can and will be adapted and adjusted over time.

No you are not correct.
Game Engine is many things tools is incorrect answer
1. Its a Library (most commonly for C base languages)
2. Its a software framework/software development environment.
What does engine offer?
1. in short AI basic logic
2. Engines/Systems: Graphic, Psychics and Audio (in RE4R its destructible crates, walking sound of it how it looks).
Now is it adjusted for modern times? absolutely not.
Most developers rarely update their engines. DX12 version of the game is the same as RE2-3 Remakes. The big they made most game work properly on DX9-11 (and below) as coding on these rendering interface is much simpler. IS Dx12 better then 11? yes
why most people have problems with the game running on dx12? devs lack of care to the optimization.
Take Death Stranding it runs on DX12 but it runs absolutely smoothly it uses all of your PC components to the best of its usage.
Resident evil 4 remake = GPU 3D use is overloaded GPU memory not used on 100% which actully cause D3D error and BDOS on older gpu's CPU cores if you have 12 processes then some of them will just chill. that's just ♥♥♥♥ optimization. And RE2R-3R Dx12 have same issues but these issues don't show on Dx11 versions of these games as engine was meant for older versions of DX.
you think a 6+ years engine is old? Bethesda uses the same engine since the 90s, besides REngine is one of the best engines in the moment, Re4 brought it to it's limits, it's an good thing because now Capcom can expand and improve it further, making the next titles even better.
