Unity just doesn't really make for great long term 10 year projects (like 7dtd). Like with java, it doesn't really seem to have a strong foundation and bleeds performance once you build too much on it despite the visuals usually being subpar.
It was very noticeable for RE3 with the distant zombies moving at a very low framerate.
But mods could fix that.
I haven't seen this issue in RE4 Remake.
Forgot about that one. I haven't noticed this issue with RE4R either. So I hope that annoyance is indeed fixed.
100% this every time.
And at max settings still looks kinda good at relative low requirements compared to most other engines.
About low fps zombies it is likely made so toaster PS 4 can run the game, but likely vast majority of PCs would have no problem running them at high fps animations.
But cacpom do not care much about PC ports.......
I think atomic heart had the right approach have a settings for animations frequency for distant stuff so you can choose based on your hardware.
Dunia engie 2 used for FC 3,4,5,6 is also decade+ old.
So does the frostbite engine.
Fallout use some ancient engine forgot its name.Of course codes and stuff got updated.
Unreal engine 4 looks aweseom but very often has problems with caching issues even on powerful hardware especially if it is DX12.
Too many games have or had this issue.....
Although I think that the reason that the games are showing a bit of age is due to the fact that these titles are cross generation, this will impact how the game looks on higher end machines.
Graphics look samey > GREAT thats worldbuilding and look better than most other games.
Same engine > GREAT because it's one of the most beautiful engines which also works well with PC
From the technical point of view you are perfectly right, but from the artistic profile RE4 is gorgeous, also like animations and fluidity.
Speaking of quality texture and definition I think RE3 is the most beautiful (in the few sessions designed well),and the only one who has an impactful ray tracing.
Sooner or later capcom will have to change engines but it's a very clever company. RE Village is not by chance that much like RE4 as a setting, so the graphic assets were ready for 4.
