RE4 remake demo Fatal D3D Error (25)
[UPDATE AS OF 3/10/2023]: I just played with the "Ray Tracing preset" and played the ENTIRE DEMO without crashing. I also played it again without crashes at 1440p MAXED settings and RT off. So... I guess it has something to do with setting RT to HIGH or combo of MAXED settings and RT HIGH which is causing the error to occur.

Original thread down below...

I get the "Fatal D3D Error (25)" randomly while playing RE4 demo at 1440p (FSR off), ALL details set to the MAX and RT set to HIGH. It runs beautifully up until the random Fatal D3D Error (25) crashes. I'm hoping CAPCOM sees this and patches it soon. My PC specs are...

• AMD RYZEN 9 3900XT (stock CPU)
• AMD RX 6700 XT MECH 2X 12G OC (stock GPU)
• 32GB Mushkin Redline Stiletto 3600C16 (RAM timings 16-18-18-36-56-CR1)
• Super Flower Leadex III 750W 80+ Gold (PSU)
• 2x 1TB Crucial MX500 SSD (storage)
• WD_BLACK SN750SE 1 TB M.2 SSD (storage)
• LIAN LI LANCOOL II MESH (PC case)
• Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 (CPU cooler)
• GIGABYTE B550M AORUS PRO-P (motherboard BIOS F16b)
• Windows 11 Pro (OS 22H2)

I think it's an issue with how the game manages VRAM. Turn down the texture setting and see if the crashes stop. That said, the demo isn't based on the final build of the game.
main release still crashes with this

English:
The error happens when the graphic memory used exceeds the available one so reduce the graphics like for example the quality of the shadows and it will work perfectly.

Português:
O erro acontece quando a memória gráfica utilizada excede a disponível então diminua os gráficos como por exemplo a qualidade das sombras e funcionará perfeitamente.

Lower your settings so your VRAM isn't overextended guys. It's really not a hard thing to do. Unless you have a 4080 or 7900xtx then it's to be expected.

PS5 runs it way worse, let alone the PS4. I promise.

Not a vram issue, just raytracing as buggy as the demo, just turn it off and it doesn't crash, Capcom fixes nothing.

I get the same mistake, the strange thing is that in the Resident Evil Village this did not happen, I have a 3070 ti and in that game exceeded the limits of VRAM without any problem :/

Got the same error in the Full game. Time to buy 4090 =/

The fact that game didn't outright crash doesn't mean you didn't have problems, likely fps drops. In any case, lower your VRAM usage and problem solved.

If I used nvidia's optimal settings (which leaves vram usage below 8gb) and it worked perfectly, it also works fine if you put everything to max (it doesn't matter if you exceed the vram limit) but you have to disable RT, so too It allows you to play well without the error popping up, for now we only have to choose between whether to play with RT or Full Graphics without RT, one or the other xD

This happens to me as well with a 3080, I'm using well below my vram (hovering around 6-7gb) gpu usage is only around 50% as well

I experience the same problem and can agree to both workarounds (but in my case lowering VRAM consuming high texture setting with cache over 2-3 gb only lets the game run in RT mode longer without crashes, but at some point it still crashes, and sometimes without a checkpoint around).

Anyway, I'd appreciate if Capcom would notice these multiple threads all over the Internet about the RT bug and fix it. Capcom, please :steamsad:

this error is about your VRAM using, don't use 90% of your vram(RED STAGE in settings) keep you VRAM in yellow stage and will fix

No the issue has nothing to do with VRAM. 4090 with 24GB of VRAM, using 15, still error 25.
It seems to be very random too, I lowered my VRAM overclock thinking that was the culprit, but the crashes still occur, sometimes after 2 hours sometimes after 2 minutes. I have used my overclock setting extensively for months with other games, never had any issues, probably me turning down the VRAM OC didn't even do anything.

(btw, I played a bit with GPU logs on and I after the crashed I reviewed them, the VRAM values, and every other value where normal, I did not exceed or even come close to 24GB, stayed under 15. I used GPU-Z to record the values)
