Resident Evil 4 Remake Demo Review: The game nobody asked for.

I was here for the original RE4 Demo release back in 2004. The original was pretty dang controversial among RE fans. No proper zombies? Action based? SPAIN? At the time we simply didn't know what was in store for us. But alas, RE4 came to be one of the most applauded and beloved games ever made. It broke barriers we didn't know needed breaking.

The RE4 Remake Demo... does not break any barriers. It is exactly what you expected it to be. A high graphical fidelity rearranged remake of the game we've played at least 50 times already. The voice acting is flatter than a dead mans pulse rate. The player movement is somehow clunkier? It's just very odd and uninspired outside the visuals.

The graphics are really nice. I love the way this game presents itself visually. This is probably the best Capcom has ever done, really. But for what? All this visual beauty for an alternate reality version of a game that we've had for 18 years. I'm willing to bet we would have been a lot happier with a graphical update to the original. I know I would have been game for that.

But the biggest glaring issue I can already see in this demo, that has tainted every resident evil game in the last several years, is the dead game play. The gun play feels like I'm playing an air soft game. A 12 gauge shotgun has ZERO thrash to your foes. The enemies are sponges. It feels like I'm not meant to fight the enemies.

Overall, I will not be purchasing RE4 Remake. The original, along with the free community made HD project, is unsurpassed. While I hope others enjoy this, RE4 remake is not the next generation RE game we needed.

Gotta plug that RE 4 HD mod though. If you just want to play the original with nicer graphics that mod is amazing.

I couldn't disagree more, its the game I've been wanting to see for years, ever since they started doing the remakes and really even before that. I love the original game, I've been playing it for many years on many different platforms, so to get the game revamped like this, giving me the controls I've been wanting, and offering up RE4 as a new experience, I'm all onboard for that. Will the game be as good as I want it to be or as good as the original? Who knows, I can't judge it on a sub-20 minute game demo that is mostly a tutorial, but we'll see. It's going to be a good game no matter what.

Please stop this stupid mentality when you have a subjective opinion on something. You're subjective opinion isn't objective truth, nor does your opinion apply to everyone else. I'm greatly looking forward to this, and this game doesn't replace the original, so accept that YOU but not ALL are not interested in the title and just move on.
Wasting your time trying to make post after post on a forum about a game you dislike is just a waste of your own personal time you could be using towards something you actually enjoy or care about. Try that.

I guess nobody expected a revolution here. We just expected it to be a solid modern game, at any rate not worse than the recent DS Remake. Does it live up to expectations? No, no it doesn't.

And expecting the full game will somehow be drastically better compared to the specially prepared demo is unrealistic.

From Leon's "Bingo" to Ganados, they all sound bored and unenthusiastic, just reading their lines instead of acting. Pretty sure it's not just the duckling syndrome talking.

Me too. A 1:1 copy of the original on RE engine with modern graphics? Ada's dress and Ashley's panties with HDR and ray tracing? I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

No idea why all those things have to be done by the fans this days while Capcom is doing stuff nobody asked for instead.

Once again, same feeling. Enemies feel like in every zombie movie, you shoot them and they just soak bullets, like you're shooting a piece of wood.

And the feeling I'm not supposed to fight them actually comes from the new stealth system - if I don't sneak or I get spotted it now feels like I'm somehow playing it wrong and that I'll end up wasting more ammo than I'm supposed to and the game will punish me for that later on - if that makes any sense?

Amen to that. I was on the fence up to this day - I entertained the thought that if Capcom brings back regional prices for Ukraine I might as well get it for nostalgia's sake. But as it stands there's nothing here that I'd really enjoy or that would bring back the memories.
