Low GPU utilization FIX!
Anybody else with this issue?

Running 3440x1440 max no RT, no FSR. 7900 XT, Ryzen 5 7600, 32GB DDR5 6000mhz. PBO is off, CPB is on in the BIOS.

No way in hell the Ryzen 5 7600 bottlenecks my 7900 XT, the other remakes all run like butter on 100% GPU utilization except this one. 70 - 90 fps in combat...?

Possibly due to demo / early release and performance issues will be ironed out later? Or does anybody else also suffer low GPU utilization

EDIT:

SOLVED

Found a fix for the low GPU usage, it is the HDR, at least on my PC.
If HDR is turned off, GPU usage goes back to 99% and performance goes back to normal.

I've tested 3 times and it was consistent, HDR on send the GPU usage down, HDR off goes back to normal. Recomend everyone having low GPU usage to give a try.

Make sure that you start the game with HDR already off to make effect.

Threaded optimization is confirmed botched for this demo. People with low and high end cards see GPU usage plummet on the village fight.

Further inspection on afterburner for me shows the game hammering one of 16 cores of my cpu while the others don't even go past 30%. Only other games that mess up this bad are Hogwarts Legacy and Warzone 2.0 - but these are known for being dumpster fires.

Yeah, it's what another guy original said in the demo performance thread. You can get a 16 core CPU and say a 6800 XT and get higher frames than someone with a 6 or 8 core and a 4080 for that matter.

As I said, re2 remake makes good use of the cpu and my GPU maxes out at 97-100% utilization nearly constantly.

I have freesync premium pro and it just isn't cutting it. It's exactly as you said in your next comment, we have the hardware to run it. Hopefully they patch this up in the main release. I genuinely cannot imagine them delivering such bad performance in the main game.

Actually a lot of games don't use the CPU cores and thread properly. Battlefield 2042 was also this way before they made an update.

but even for Hogwarts Legacy and Warzone 2.0 that u mentioned, they run pretty well on my computer, just like every other guy with same gear like me
No Hogwarts dosen't run well at all stop the cap.

i was playing the game on max everything on max and my gpu usage was 90-95 but it drops to 60 70 in village section which makes the frames go down i think its optimization bug and should get fixed i saw a guy benchmarking with the same specs as i do on max settings he was getting 60 frames in the village area and his gpu usage was 90 to 100 to and there is no cpu bottle neck i confirmed as well

Having 100% GPU utilization is a negative effect to go for. Capping framerate to set your utilization at less than 100 will give you a more stable experience and much better input latency.

no one wants 100 utilization it should be 90 to 95 stable no idea why it drops in village section drops to 70 which is not good

Tried to do some investigation on that, I've noticed that both GPU and CPU clocks get very low when this happens, like if the game is being treated as a background task, I'm running on a 5600X (on a 240mm AIO) and noticed CPU clocks getting below 2GHz even if the CPU is very cool, my 6800XT also gets around 70% utilization without frame rate caps, less than 2GHz on RE4, when the card getts to 2.5HGHz ion other games. I won't be surprised if this behaviour changes once Denuvo getts removed.
i too am having these issues. i got the D3D error to stop (i hope) by lowering the texture to 4gb and the shadows to high instead of max (drops about 2gbs of vram with little difference in looks). with everything else maxed along with RT on, i get average 65FPS @ 4K. but my GPU utilization is between 55%-80%ish. also my Frame rate only increases 10 fps on average when disabling RT? this game just seems weirdly optimized, I don't think its a bottleneck issue.
PC specs below.
-5900x PBO (4 of my cores hit 5.175MHz)
-6900XT 355W PPT
-32Gb RAM @ 3600 1:1 tightened secondary and tertiary timings
-980 pro NVME
-LG G1 120Hz freesync
*CPU speed hits that when playing other games or performing benchmarks. it shows almost no utilization with RE4, at some parts as low as 2% utilization.

* i meant to mention that i am not experiencing any dips but just feel that there is performance left on the table. along with having VRAM in the yellow causes D3D crashing with RT on. have not experienced that on any other games with RT. which leads me to believe that its poorly optimized either drivers or game updates.

Make sure you have min and max CPU utilization set at 100% or simply switch to high performance power plan, my 4090 never goes under 99% GPU utilization anymore.

i9 10850k rtx 4080 1440p some parts run solid 99 percent plus and others drop way down 60-70 percent even less at times. Every other game I played has solid scaling but this game doesn't seem to take advantage of many cores... fps are still great though for the most part

HOLY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ YOU ARE A GENIUS

My utilization is 97-100% with HDR off... how the ♥♥♥♥ did they manage to BOTCH it up this bad though? Jesus christ man...

I'm averaging triple digits roughly 90 - 100 fps with Max settings, RT on high + Hair Strands on High as well on 3440x1440@144hz

As you mentioned, you need to launch the game once to turn HDR off, then relaunch and it should be fixed.

OMG thank you for the solved problem. I played the whole game on hardcore in hdr while beating myself up for having less than 80% gpu usage. With hdr off, its at 100%.
Hello, I'm still having this issue with low GPU usage but under Linux 6.6.1 (OpenSuse TumbleWeed) using proton 8, experimental and latest GE. All other Resident Evil (2, 3, 7 and 8) works just fine and all other games I have (A LOT) works perfect too (like Dead Space remake to give and example).

I have a Ryzen 9 5950x, rx 7900 xtx, 64 gb ram 3600mhz and nvme gen4 for OS and other nvme gen4 for games, so the hardware is not a problem.

In this case HDR is not the cause because on Linux we still don't have support for it and of course that option is OFF in game.

I play all my games in 4K ultra (FSR 2) to get 120 fps solid but this one give me 57 - 60 fps (it sucks) and GPU usage is not more than 50% and it is very cold (48 degrees).

Anyone using Linux to play this game and resolved this low gpu usage issue? (not steam deck but a PC).

Thanks and greetings!
Can confirm it’s HDR. I dk why. Maybe AMD issue. But yea. Weird. Thanks OP!
