Yeah, it's what another guy original said in the demo performance thread. You can get a 16 core CPU and say a 6800 XT and get higher frames than someone with a 6 or 8 core and a 4080 for that matter.
As I said, re2 remake makes good use of the cpu and my GPU maxes out at 97-100% utilization nearly constantly.
I have freesync premium pro and it just isn't cutting it. It's exactly as you said in your next comment, we have the hardware to run it. Hopefully they patch this up in the main release. I genuinely cannot imagine them delivering such bad performance in the main game.
PC specs below.
-5900x PBO (4 of my cores hit 5.175MHz)
-6900XT 355W PPT
-32Gb RAM @ 3600 1:1 tightened secondary and tertiary timings
-980 pro NVME
-LG G1 120Hz freesync
*CPU speed hits that when playing other games or performing benchmarks. it shows almost no utilization with RE4, at some parts as low as 2% utilization.
* i meant to mention that i am not experiencing any dips but just feel that there is performance left on the table. along with having VRAM in the yellow causes D3D crashing with RT on. have not experienced that on any other games with RT. which leads me to believe that its poorly optimized either drivers or game updates.
Found a fix for the low GPU usage, it is the HDR, at least on my PC.
If HDR is turned off, GPU usage goes back to 99% and performance goes back to normal.
I've tested 3 times and it was consistent, HDR on send the GPU usage down, HDR off goes back to normal. Recomend everyone having low GPU usage to give a try.
Make sure that you start the game with HDR already off to make effect.
HOLY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ YOU ARE A GENIUS
My utilization is 97-100% with HDR off... how the ♥♥♥♥ did they manage to BOTCH it up this bad though? Jesus christ man...
I'm averaging triple digits roughly 90 - 100 fps with Max settings, RT on high + Hair Strands on High as well on 3440x1440@144hz
As you mentioned, you need to launch the game once to turn HDR off, then relaunch and it should be fixed.
OMG thank you for the solved problem. I played the whole game on hardcore in hdr while beating myself up for having less than 80% gpu usage. With hdr off, its at 100%.
I have a Ryzen 9 5950x, rx 7900 xtx, 64 gb ram 3600mhz and nvme gen4 for OS and other nvme gen4 for games, so the hardware is not a problem.
In this case HDR is not the cause because on Linux we still don't have support for it and of course that option is OFF in game.
I play all my games in 4K ultra (FSR 2) to get 120 fps solid but this one give me 57 - 60 fps (it sucks) and GPU usage is not more than 50% and it is very cold (48 degrees).
Anyone using Linux to play this game and resolved this low gpu usage issue? (not steam deck but a PC).
Thanks and greetings!
