Can't start game

I get the opening screen w/ "Discovery lit and other options greyed out, but wasd, space, enter, etc. don't cause anything to happen - what am I missing?

If you hit 'w', a small orange square doesn't go across the screen? If so, you have to hit the space bar when the square crossed the vertical grey line.. this is how menu selection works.

Thanks - I figured it out eventually. I feel a bit slow on the uptake, so thanks for your forbearance. I am impressed by such responsiveness fro the dev. team. And thanks for a fine series!
