It's okay, about a 6.5/10. Definitely a game to buy on sale. It plays like a Gameboy Advance version of GTA 2. Retro City Rampage DX is chock full of 80's references and the story is fun if you get those references. Even then, it's pretty nonsensical. My main complaint is that most of the missions feel very much the same. "drive here, collect an item or kill a few enemies to collect an item and head back to the start point." The saving grace is that these missions can be broken up with the "side challenges". I had fun for a few hours, even if it wasn't the most gripping.

Really funny retro GTA tribute with hundreds of easter eggs movie/game references, great humor, plays great taking into account the limits of the source material / whos trying to clone/homage.

Retro City Rampage is impressive as far as GTA parodies go and for the sheer amount of content that the developers managed to cram into this seemingly simple game. However, actually playing it is not a lot of fun. Missions are nonsensical and take all of ten seconds to beat. The graphics make it difficult to tell what the hell is going on most of the time. I may also be too old for this kind of humor. As a result, the game left me bored and indifferent.

Retro City Rampage™ DX is a competent execution of a tired formula, expertly leveraging nostalgia as its primary selling point. It offers fleeting, pixelated catharsis – a digital theme park ride through a distorted memory of the 80s/90s. Ultimately, it’s a distraction machine, well-crafted but spiritually empty. Play it, forget it, or recognize it as another node in the network designed to keep you consuming echoes. The choice, as always, is an illusion you participate in.
