Still, game is worth this ;-)
No! This is the mine at the beginning of chapter 2! I haven't accumulated enough perks to help with much, yet!
Though, in this map u don't really need any special perks.
If you have trouble with particular location then just make a screenshot and post here. But believe me, chapter 2 is walk in the park. After finishing chapter 1 u should already understand mechanics of the game - there is not that much to learn.
@failsafe, I think we're talking about two different "chapter 2"s; I'm taking about the very beginning of chapter 2, following the end of Chapter 1 where you fight in the sawmill. The first mission in "MY" chapter 2 is a mine, where you get stuck in a pit (arena) with the baddies up on a catwalk shooting down at you,the boss throwing dynamite at you and shooting at you, and you've got zero effective cover and no way out. I have no idea what you mean about escaping from jail; I haven't gotten there yet. But thanks for the tips; I'll remember them if I ever DO get out of this pit!
But:
- you do have plenty of cover - there is a stagecoach and some stones
- keep in mind that enemies start spreading from certain point - you have to deal with them clockwise - you start shooting at them at the bridge, then you keep changing your position to use different cover while they approach from new dirrections - as far as I remember it is clockwise thing
- the only important thing is to actually shoot them from very start, so that they don't encircle you too early
Now, the spoiler: they will eventually encircle you delivering a nice bullet-hell to your location, but your character will "find" a way out. It is a scripted thing: suddenly you are out of ammo (even if you had plenty second ago) but you see a way out. So you stop shooting, you just run. And then you run some more. They will keep chasing you until you get to a place where you find a dead body with the gun. You have ammo again, you turn around and kill bastards. From that point it is linear thing - shooting, killing ect.
This is one of the few moments in the game where you don't use standard tactics. It is a matter of understanding what is going on, finding proper way and being lucky. In other words: it may take more than few attempts.
If you managed to get to the guy with gatling - the boss - then you are fine. This part is easy, in a way. Just keep in mind:
- you don't shoot at him - before u aim properly he will convert you into a sieve. Besides he can kill you in one round, you cant kill him with few hits.
- you have to run from cover to cover
- typically when boss shoots his gattling he will flood the area with bullets until he needs to reload - when it happens you run to nearest cover
- try to use route on the left of the area - this will allow you to sneak into better position
- try to approach boss from his back - most probably he will not throw dynamite there
- if you find a nice spot behind the rock - and behind him - you can throw dynamite at him - keep in mind, though, that if you throw too far dynamite may just explode below the rocks and do no harm to him
- when he is low on hp then finish him with gun
- quick tip: if your focus is loaded, then just peek from the rock, press "q" - the time will slow. You dont have perks but even without those perks just use additional time to shoot at his head. With some perks active your character automatically aims at head, so all you need is just press LMB several times and this equals to several headshots.
That is it.
I believe I had some issues with this level as well, at least first time when I was playing it. Second time on medium diff it was much easier. Today I will try this on "real west" difficulty ;-P
No, Brother! No stagecoach. The boss's name is Henry Plummer, he throws dynamite incessantly and the only "cover" is wooden crates that can be shot through and provide no protection from dynamite at all. He's literally the first boss in chapter 2. These are still some great tips, though! :-D
I had like some 10 approaches to this battle. Plummer drops dynamite, so you need to shoot at dynamite (it works better when you see Plummer, so that - as a result - you see him throwing). My best idea to deal with him was to quickly go to a plate - it is in front of the pit, more or less BELOW position where Plummer starts. When u are there just find a good angle and start throwing your own dynamites. He will change position and move to your right - you can send him a dynamite there as well, but generally you should be ready to reposition yourself to get cover. The idea is to hit him 3-4 times with dynamite and finish with guns. If you do it right then whole fight takes short time and boom! Your done with it.
I believe the worst thing you can do is to stay away from Plummer and fire only with your guns. This could work, but he has his helpers and he is throwing bombs, so at some point you will be in crossfire. It is better to rush and close the range. It may work on second or third approach, but IT WORKS.
So, generally this is one of three PIT-FIGHTS you will have in this game. Second one is the one from my post above - in the canyon. And third one is with the indians. Third one is the easiest. Out of these three, the one with Plummer is most difficult. Not much space. Not much cover. And dynamite flying like flies. But it is doable. Try my way. Modify it as you feel, just keep eyes open. Generally in my way the trick is to find a good spot behind the plate - where you will have some peace and quite - and to time throwing dynamite to make as much dmg as possible. If you do it then you will be surprised how easy it was ;-)
Yup! This is the one, and I sincerely thank you for the time you've put in helping me figure out what I'm doing wrong, and how to shorten the fight; you have the patience of a saint! :-)
I'll use more dynamite and look to close with him. Thanks, buddy! This one's been driving me nuts!
Roger that!
Hence why the game makes you absurdly overpowered with all those utilities.
