Why was Call of Juarez: The Cartel delisted?

I know the game got a very VERY negative reception, but, because I'm getting back into these games again, I want to try the one everyone slammed. I also know there are physical copies, but does that version need Steam like MW3 and DN:F?

Cartel does need Steam but an unused key can still be activated. Just because the game is delisted doesn't mean that old unused keys won't activate. I was able to buy a Fable III key for Steam after the game was delisted.

Honestly, maybe wait for Techland to put it on GOG..? They have the rights from ubisoft now

What is DN:F ? And that title is no longer available because it probably ended in that hell like Friday 13 where no one wants to keep working on it neither pay to renew licenses and sell it again... because they know it will sell poorly.

edit: Yes I know F13 is still selling some copies and half of the team actually wants to keep working on it but you got my point, they're both in 'legal hells'. Also I am surprised Bound in Blood was recovered and can still be purchased.

Techland's higher-ups consider The Cartel a "mistake". They're quite right about that. The gunplay was bad, the graphics were muddy, the story was forgettable, the characters were crap, the "iconic" setting simply isn't there and replaced by a very generic modern setting (you CAN create a modern Western setting/feeling, see Breaking Bad for reference, but The Cartel didn't). Oh, and it's also a pretty bad console port. Even the things that could have been good about The Cartel were only good in concept.

There's a certain frowned-down-upon alternative route to acquire games. Considering Techland literally won't sell this game to you, I wouldn't feel bad about it.
