How much of it is true (game-wise) ?
I know that in reality these stories never happened, but what about the alternate history/timeline in which the universe of CoJ is set ? Did it happen, or were the stories mostly just huge exaggerations and lies told by Silas so that he could discover if Ben actually IS Bob Bryant and on the side get free drinks ?

I kinda feel that the developers intended to make the exploits of Silas up for debate since chunks of what he has told is really controversial and saying that the time dates and events were ambiguous would be a huge understatement.
For example: In some cases, particularly in the first few levels of the game, the in-game dates and events seem to coincide with real world facts. Like the encounter at “Stinking Springs” (1st mission), ”Kid’s escape from the Lincoln Jail” (2nd mission), the ”Guadalupe canyon massacre” (3rd mission) in which the Mexican Rurales took the life of “Cochise County Cowboys” leader Newman Haynes Clanton known in game as “Old man Clanton”. Examples like these are “believable”, since they are all real life events that transpired, and in such cases you can give Silas the benefit of the doubt and just go with the story that he “was there”, and “was the main man” behind those events, contrary to the known history facts.

In others cases the accuracy between real life dates and in-game ones are years apart, particularly in the 5th mission: "The magnificent one" is set sometime “after Johnny Ringo’s” death which happened 13th July 1882 which is the same date used in the game. So Silas is hunting Henry Plummer after that date, it could mean it’s 1882 or even more down the line since it’s not stated, and the term “some time after Johnny Ringo’s death” is more than ambiguous. In reality Henry Plummer died in 1864, he was hanged. Does this mean that in the CoJ timeline, Henry Plummer survived long after 1864, or is this the first case of Silas telling lies to the patrons of the saloon for more of free drinks ?

Six months before Silas starts telling his story to the patrons of the saloon in Abilene, he has claimed to have faced and bested both “Butch Cassidy” and “The Sundance Kid” in a duel in 1910. In reality it’s presumed that both outlaws died in Bolivia in a shootout with the Bolivian police in 1908, but in fact it was never proved nor conclusively said that they did, and in that case, I can “believe” that they’re “alive” in this timeline, and that Silas “did” duel with them.

My summary is that in this CoJ timeline, Silas was present at certain events and he did went toe to toe with some of the most famous outlaws and gunmen of “The Old West”, but not all of it is true. I believe that some of his stories and exploits against several outlaws is greatly exaggerated and plain simply they just don’t add up, so he lied in some cases.

I hope I got the point about my curiosity across. To some I’ll probably seem silly just by looking too much into something that in reality never happened, but that’s just how I am, doesn’t matter if it’s video games, movies, books etc. I love to theorise about these things.

Looking forward to the next entry in the series, I hope we don’t have to wait too long.

I think that all of Silas' stories were true, because there were at least two cases when the others have interrupted him with their own versions which tended to be more epic/aggressive, but he always corrected them, the only thing he always seems to mess up are the enemy types/numbers and the way out of certain situations.

"Then, BAM an abandoned barn had just materialized before me!" or
"And then I noticed a pathway that I have not seen before!" (random large rock levitates away revealing the path)

Dayum, this game is so good. xD

They are yarns which means the truth could be stretched just alittle.

It could also be that Silas is deliberately statng incorrect facts to make Bob Bryant give himself away by correcting him.
