So whenever I see a game I'm interested in that lacks a Linux version, I ask politely for a Linux version. Some devs say that they are planning a Linux version at a later date (although this doesn't always work out). Some of them decide that a Linux port isn't worth the trouble because it doesn't have the market share necessary to justify a port. Some of them are currently in the process of working on a Linux port and it's on the way. Some of the devs just don't pay any attention to the Steam forums and my request goes unheard.
Now keep in mind that before I switched to my computer I've been playing Steam games on a Windows 7 laptop. Many of the games on my library still lack Linux ports, whereas Castle Crashers will finally receive a Linux port when the Remastered version comes out.
I get a lot of flak for requesting Linux versions. People tell me to "Dual-Boot to Windows". I would never in my right mind do that again. I don't trust Windows at all anymore. Windows has been a terrible addiction and I am now overcoming it. Since the devs are porting this game to Linux, this will be one less game on my library that will be unplayable to me. And yes, I can be patient for it as long as I can be certain that it's coming.
Come to think of it, I haven't really heard of any confirmation that the Remastered version even WILL contain a Linux port. Maybe I have more of a right to make a fuss than you. At least you're getting your Remastered version in the forseeable future. And I'm getting screwed over.
However, I really hate being rude and indignant. There's already too much of that in this world, especially on the internet. So I try to counter that whenever I can. All I can offer is my gratitude for when the Linux port comes out. If it's going to be part of the Remastered version release, I will be very grateful indeed. I might also owe you an apology, too.
We are talking about platforms not about OS, stop diverting attention.
"Note: Steam users will also get a chance to experience the remastered version in the future. The development of the Steam update has already begun."
At the end of the day, they're a business. They don't owe you anything, even if they did have a "strong PC gaming" heritage.
When the PC version of Castle Crashers Remastered does come out, I bet next to nobody will even remember the PC port being delayed. If it isn't delivered via a free patch or there's no loyalty discount, the majority of people will probably just wait to pick up the game in Steam sale anyway.
Gee. It sounds to me like you wouldn't mind if the PC version of CCR were cancelled altogether. Are you honestly saying that the Newgrounds community doesn't matter to the devs? Not even to Tom Fulp himself? That the popularity of the original flash version of Alien Hominid didn't matter at all? Things like that matter a great deal. Even when it's distributed for free, the popularity of something proves that it's a winning formula. It proves that if they make it even better and charge money for it, it will be worth the money. The entire model of taking one's own freely distributed game and making a bigger and better commercial version of a game is a proven success to indie devs like this. So yes. It was the PC community (or more specifically Newgrounds) that built The Behemoth. The only thing the console gamers did was buy a game, further cementing the games as winning concepts.
BTW, the Newgrounds community also contributed in far more material ways. All of the game's funky OST came from the Newgrounds audio portal. This aspect of the game was crowdsourced. And not from the console community. So be greatful that they are supporting the consoles and the PC. They get plenty of money from both, but they get so much more than just money from the PC side of things.
