Multiplayer game not unlocking characters
I recently played a local 4 player game from start to finish, getting every item along the way. After completing the game, only player 1 received the skull, and the other three did not. I went back to check their individual progress to see what went wrong.

One of the three problem characters did not receive the horn and the telescope despite being there when those bosses were killed. The other two have all the items. When I check the map with each character individually, there are NO arrows showing where we should go, thus making it seem like all levels have been completed.

I thought maybe it had something to do with player one only getting the unlocks, so after completing the game, I set one of the two characts with all the items to player one and beat the final stage again. No unlock or skull.

Any ideas what might have gone wrong? Are there any levels that act up and dont give a completed flag when they should?

When you play CC online, it's possible to skip some levels, if you know which levels you can skip and which are mandatory (note that the mandatories works similar to checkpoints). Once level-skipping, you may have to beat evil wizard twice to beat the game and get your skull / characters, but it will only works if you kill him in two different sessions (after beating him for the first time, end your current game and create a new party / join a new party / play local).
By doing this method, there won't be arrows showing the levels you skipped (unless you skip Pirate Ship or Full Moon)

However, it doesn't seem to be your case, as you have already killed him in different sessions if I got it right.

Here goes some of my theories and/or possible solutions (I can't search for more info now, sorry):

  1. You were dead when cornboss and industrial prince were beaten
It has already happened with a friend who was playing with me. We were playing Industrial Castle on insane mode and he died on boss fight. I couldn't revive him because he was too close of lava and when I tried to revive me, lava would hurt me and knock me back. After beating him, I revived my friend but he didn't get the telescope and didn't unlock Necormancer. It worked after we repeat the level.

  2. Repeat some levels
When I've first heard about Level-skipping, I did some research to learn more about it. I remember reading about enter-exit Blacksmith, redo Abandoned Mill and dock (walk to the right until you start the Ship level). I've never had to do it before, but who knows?

I tried #2 and can verify that doing that did not work unfortunately.

However, since I noticed that the Barbarian that I was playing with did not have the spyglass or the horn, Montuano and I did an online game where we beat the Industrial castle, did the docks and ninja boat, beat the corn boss, and then beat the game. This then triggered the unlock and the skull. I still have to test this for the other two characts, but I'll report the findings eventually.

Just attempted the same thing as above that worked with the barbarian with one of the other two remaining problems characters in a local game multiplayer game. He did not get the unlock. Now I am realy confused and there are still no arrows telling me where to go to fix it. The character has all the items and was through the entire game with everyone else.

there are already guides explaining level skipping...

I am aware of this. This is not a level skipping question. This problem stems from beating the entire game and not getting an unlock. The OP states exactly what is going on.

On these characters who are supposed to have completion, are you trying to just fight the final boss to see if that triggers the unlock for you?
The Mathmagician Oct 19, 2015 @ 5:38pm
To get more specific: My initial run was the Bear as P1, thief, barbarian, and green knight as local players 2, 3, and 4. The initial runthrough gave me only the unlocks for the Bear. Killing the final boss as the other characters set as P1 in a local multiplayer did not unlock anything, even after trying the above. Only the Barbarian was successful in the online multiplayer session with Montuano, after we cleared industrial castle, blacksmith enter/leave, docks and ship, corn boss, and final boss. This did not work for the thief when I attempted the same thing with him set as P1 in a local multiplayer game.

I know this isn't ideal for you, but really the most likely case is that a level was somehow skipped.

If you skip levels, the arrow will not show up indicating levels you haven't done, so it will not be easy to spot.

What I recommend at this point is to log in to each character in a local, *single-player* game and confirm that you do not see any arrows on the map anywhere. (Going into a multiplayer game may mean that you won't see arrows for levels you still need to do). Ensure that each character has all of the relics.

Finally, make sure each character has completed all of the mandatory levels {LINK REMOVED}.

I just logged into the problems chracters, local single player, and can verify that no arrows are shown on any spots on the map. I can also verify that the two chracters were with my initial, full playthrough the entire time, though they may have been dead at crucial points. Are there any places in the game where being dead upon completing a level would matter?

If we can't figure out what's up, next plan will be to try to clear those mandatory levels with the "broken" characters and see what happens.

Thanks so far for your help Skylatron. I appreciate you taking some time on the forums.

It would be really nice to have this information, I've some theories based on this. Kind of.

Pretty much what I would do in your shoes

I'm looking into a feature with one of the guys that should make life a little easier on knowing about character progress. We're looking at adding little locks next to each level that will be displayed only on your own machine if you need to complete them. This way you can see if there's any other levels you have to play without having to disconnect to look.

That would be fantastic! Would be a very nice QoL change, especially with how many unlocks there are.

Finally had the time to play CC for a bit today and decided to try to beat all of the "mandatory" levels with one of the problems characters. I made sure to do it all in one sitting just to be safe, and upon completing the levels and beating the game, I received my unlock!

I just wish I knew which of those skippable levels caused the issue in the first place.

You still have one character right? I would try to redo all mandatories with him just in case. The problem may not be in a skippable level, but in a mandatory one.
