1.) In the Steam client, navigate to the Games tab
2.) Right click on "Castle Crashers" from the game list, then select the "Properties" menu option
3.) Under the "General" tab, click the "Set Launch Options" button
4.)Copy-paste the following into the box: -window
This will force the game to launch in windowed mode.
Set the correct resolution for your monitor in-game, under Help and Options > Game Settings > Resolution.
You can also swap to Fullscreen mode here too, but be sure to go back and delete: -window
from the launch options box later, or you'll have to change your settings every time you boot.
If this doesn't help, feel free to head over to our support site and make a new ticket so we can troubleshoot with you further:

Starting in windows mode helps with the freezing but the sound is either stuttering or absent. So now, apart from sound, the game runs fine.
I run a Surface 3, Windows 10 all up to date as of this post.
Anything else I can do besides wait for a patch?
Hi!
Can you submit a support ticket to our support system with your dxdiag attached? This way we can look further into the issue with you!
To obtain a dxdiag report using Windows XP or above:
1. From the start button, select "run" or type "run" into the search bar, then hit enter
2. Type "dxdiag" into the run field and hit enter
3. Once the dxdiag tool dialogue window pops up, click on the "Save All Information" button or tab
4. Save the report file to the location of your choice, and attach the .txt file to your reply in this ticket!
Thanks!
