Personally, I prefer to target the beetles first at all times. My strategy for them is to jump into their face and spam light attacks 4 times until they try to fly away, then I follow them. They're harmless if you do it right, but do be careful if you're dealing with more than one. They may be able to counter you if you melee more than one simultaneously.
As soon as you land on the ground when you get hit, try to time a jump so you can do a quick recover, this will make it so those meat grinder attacks don't get you as often.
The royal guards are gonna be your enemy in this level, since they're gonna try to cover the beetles, this makes the strategy of jumping into their face even more viable. Ignore the royal guards until all beetles are dead, unless you get a really good opening to do the drill combo.
Staying in the air while they're spinning around is definitely reccomended, and you may be doing something wrong if the combo doesn't work for you
The combo is magic jump + jump + xyy
The magic jump gives you a good head start on altitude, and the extra jump will make you fall slower, this will make it significantly easier to maintain/gain altitude once you start flinging yourself up into the air with uppercuts and pinwheels.
With all this in mind, it's possible to do desert with no potions.
Also I am trying to levitate and magic spam (fencer) but eventually I'll accidently land on a spot that has one and itll knock me down and another will just end it there
Im currently using necromancer sword + the snail you find at the swamp
One light attack followed by a heavy attack will do an uppercut, hence light heavy heavy.
Two light attacks followed by a heavy attack will do a slam.
You might be sneaking an extra light attack in there.
As for reccomended weapons, pick something that boosts whatever stat you value the most sharply.
As for your animal orb, avoid anything that has negative stats. Why settle for snailburt's +5 defense and -2 agility when you could get spiny's +4 defense and no downsides?
I didn't know exactly how much defence the snail gave but I knew it was greater than 4 and I thought the agility was minus one, anyhow I will be using spiny now.
Can not wait until I get there
...If I get there
