Can't get to download

I tried the tips on steams instalation guide with no luck. The game downloads but when it's complete it say 'download paused' when I click on it agai n it starts downloading it from the beggining

Right click on the game title from your library, and choose "properties", then go to the section "local files" and choose "verify local files". After its done press OK and download your game.

Thanks, I tried that. No change.
It say downloading 5 of 6 items and when the download reaches 100% it pauses and say 5 of 5 complete and then when I go to the download page it says update cancelled and on the right it says update required If I click update or the play button it starts downloading and again says downloading 5 of 6 items complete. The 6th part of download/update gets cancelled ? Or the 6th item gets cancelled
