Serious Sam 2 won't start

I have the very same issue, doing that does not help at all. I had no issue at all with the CD/DVD version I bought many years ago. It keeps a black screen then I hear the fatal error Windows noise with "Sam2.exe has stopped working shortly afterwards.

I'd like to play co-op with a friend but I can't.

Specs:

Athlon 2 X3 450 3 core 3.2 Ghz
4 GB RAM
Radeon 7850 HD 2 GB

At the time playing the game earlier this decade (2007-8?) I was using a dual core CPU.

Are you by any chance running the Steam Client beta? If you are, try opting out of it, going back to the normal Steam client and trying to run the game again. This sometimes helps.

If you're not on the client beta, check if there's any .log or .mdmp files in the game's directory.

I am using the client beta actually and I think I've had problems with 1 or 2 other games. Let me see if that helps.

Edit: I was able to get past the logo but when I was about to change settings, it crashed. I can provide a .mdmp if needed:

Contains .mdmp from today, yesterday and the 10th of October. I also ran it in compatibility mode for XP SP3 when this last run attempt I tried.

Compat modes attempted:

-Vista: Freezes at logo
-2000: Freezes at logo
-Server 2008: Logo plays but freezes partway through

Oh right, I am playing on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. My last time I played successfully was on a 32 bit CPU on a 32 bit OS (Windows XP)

I haven't tried the beta patch, will try now.

OK, the beta patch let me change everything (and probably play too) but it will not let me play in full screen, which then it crashes if I do that.

Humm it doesn't see to be producing one because the application force closes without the "Sam2.exe has stopped working" or the error popup.

I may have produced one of those the first time I loaded it and tried to change settings tho :)

Nop im not using any beta client or anything
I saw it was on sale for like dolar or so i cant remember and decided to play some with my friend we have big NOSTALGIA of this game and childhood im really hoping i see NFS MW 2005 on steam one day btw,and after waiting for 2hours to download game BEM nothing happents :C
