Now personally I start with both abilities, get boots and then build into his AA. I get damage, then the third arrow and then split on contact. After that I like to enhance vengence with the duration boost for each AA hit, the homing arrow and either regen or more slow. Then I will build into the shot if the match is still going. Obivously other utilities are mixed in as needed.
But that's me, I just ran into someone that built into the shot first.
It actually has come in handy in several team fights as well.
As for what I like fresh from the pod, percision shot and I farm for split shot or I hold off a couple seconds and just pick up explosive shot. Percision shot allows me to lay down the harrass as I split push, always keeping an eye on the mini map and firing off a shot every 7-9 seconds can go a long way to help your ally(s) win the other lane. Normally i will farm up for split shot simply because it is good early on for push wars and it synergies well with damage upgrades and later Vengence. If the match up is against characters I know will tend to ball up (ie. Voltar) i will always go exploding shot first and gun votl down every time he even thinks of dropping a heal bot.
My personal philosophy with Vengence is to get it when you would normally start thinking of getting pills, by then your AA damage should be up and your build would be more or less set to actually do something. I think alot of people are under the false assumption that Vengence makes them stronger or helps them escape when the only thing it really does is ensures that your opponent will be slower than you in an engagement. When you get it too early all your opponent really has to do is just turn around and engage you 10/1 Rocco is not going to have the burst to actually kill them faster than they can kill you and if they were low enough on hp to actually die a well placed percision shot would have done just as well for far lesser risk.
