Note to the less clever:
Hopefully if they turn on the steam server, one of their employees will show up here and let us know. There's no need to ask every now and then when this and that will be here, when it's been clear for almost a year that no one has been coming here from them.
It must be a huge hassle to find out who the publisher is and write directly to him, right? https://store.steampowered.com/publisher/Atari/about/
https://atari.com/pages/contact
While I don't like the tone of your response, I will admit that I didn't look that far into it which I should have done. Aside from the original video that discussed Awesomenauts' revival, we have gotten little to no information about when they are reviving the servers. This is why I originally asked the question. That video is now a month old.
As for your point about asking them directly, I am going to assume that you didn't do this. I say that because if you did, you'd probably just tell me what the company said. Don't worry however, because I have. here is their full response.
While again this raises questions about what happened to Awesomenauts (distressed state?) it sounds like they're not just turning on a server. If anything, it sounds like there's something severely problematic with their version of the game as if it were damaged in some way. I wish we knew what exactly is wrong with their version or what fixes they're implementing.
It raises a lot more questions in my mind but at least I know one thing:
I do however appreciate their belief in the franchise and their philosophy of long-term viability rather than simply posting whatever they have now.
Atari only sells old single player games (used to be abodonware), HW that emulates their decades old 8 bit PCs and Awesomenauts is a modern, multiplayer game that takes an online server to run, which is a cost.
So all they're looking for is a way to make the most money out of Awesomenauts.
I doubt Awesomenauts were in any bad shape when they ran nonstop from 2019 to 2023. I doubt it's somehow extremely difficult to turn the server on again when it's been running for 4 years, on not very powerful HW.
Atari just announced Awesomenaut have a terrible economic model that doesn't allow us to have a regular profit without work, we're looking for ways to monetize the game.
In the meantime, we don't care if the game works or if the last players die at 90 years old waiting decades for Awesomenauts to launch.
What puzzles me personally is why Steam is still selling this game, why it isn't being pulled from the store. It's been a broken F2P game for almost a year. It's going to be broken for a long time to come. How can Steam offer Awesomenauts All Nauts Pack ?! After all, it's for a game that doesn't really exist anymore!
considering there are zero 2D platforming mobas, and just smash clones, I hope they see the potential and figure it out. how complex can it be to develop a viable financial model for a finished product that is just sitting on your shelves with no direct competitor? come on Atari, take my money already!!
love you k thx bai
That is a fantastic question. However, that's not on Steam. It's on Atari. Since Atari is the new owner of Awesomenauts it is entirely their responsibility to remove the game and pack until everything is fixed. They are choosing to keep it up. From Valve's perspective, Atari still has hopes on the game and they may(or may not) honor the previous sales.
