The "GG" saying and why its Meaningless.

I dont know about you guys, but i am growing tired of people saying GG after a game by default, to the point that they are saying it even when the game was crummy.

GG means Good Game, so that means the game was played well, the match was good, it was exciting and fun,

but what i see instead is a game where one player has two bots and the other team has a full team. Needless to say that other single player gets utterly annihilated, to the point where he has no hope whatsoever and spends the whole game dying repeatedly. Then this game is followed by "GG" in the chat section. Tell me? what was so good about this game? was there any back and fourth? was there even any competition, no. it was like watching humans burning an ant hill, and then saying good game.

I have been on both sides of this scenario, as the victor trio and as the victim of imbalance, and i can tell you this, neither side of the game is fun. as the stacked victors there is no challenge, no reason to even put in effort. the game is over before it even started, it is a truly unsatisfying match. and on the other side you feel utterly hopeless, and quite honestly there is no point to even try, you wont stand a chance.

This is not even close to a good game. and to say GG afterwards deprives all meaning of the saying. it should be said on a game you actually found to be good. you didnt know who was going to win, and the game kept you on the edge of your seat. there has to be at least a little back and fourth

So please, Enough with just saying GG out of habit, You make it Pointless, You make it just two letters on the screen without a single shred of meaning. Use it on a worthy game, or dont say it at all, it doesnt comfort, it doesnt show sportsmanship, Its just empty words.

Also if you actually mean good game, try saying that instead of pressing the g key twice.

As a very sentimental person, I always try to make everything have some meaning. I never say GG on it's own, and it's only if it's ACTUALLY a good game. I'll always compliment someone or comment on the match as well as saying a GG, so it's not just mindless routine. If someone left during the game, I never say GG either.

For me it's just good manners. I've been in that scenario on both sides, in video games and IRL, and even if the game was a terrible one sided mess and I got annihilated in the process I always suck it up and say Good Game, or shake the other's hand (IRL). Good sportsmanship is something that is sadly lacking in video game culture.

Well It's not a bother, and I already explained why. And just because you can't see the reason behind the post doesn't mean there weren't any.
My point was and is. as you pointed out, why care if people are diminishing the meaning of "GG"? And my reasoning behind that is because i don't understand how it affects anyone.
Saying GG, or even actually spelling out a positive sentence after a good game is as meaningless as just saying "GG" after a "bad game".

You just played a game and you won or lost. Anything said after that doesn't really matter.

It's usually empty but in e-sports there have been people who have been reprimanded for not saying it. It's just part of the package.

If you've ever played sports, it's just common courtesy as well as standard practice. You always say "Goodgame" whether your star player was out, and the game actually sucked, or if the ref was unfair. Even if you are raging inside, the point is to be a bigger person and suck it up. You must say it whether you feel it was actually a "Goodgame" or not. Lifes not fair, neither are sports, nor games. Thats just how it goes....

There are plenty of other ways to express when a match is exceptionally good.

It's a gesture of goodwill; an expression of sportsmanship. Physical sports often begin and end with a handshake. It's just general politeness to say good game or well played, just like it is to say GLHF at the start. If you don't want to say it that's OK -- I don't many times also -- but there's nothing wrong with the sentiment.
