Chapter IV, Room V - The Intersection
I have somehow managed to get to this level without fully understanding how exactly the "veil" object works. I understand it has a magnetic force that allows my character to stay stuck to the floor/ceiling as I rotate the level instead of sliding down, but I do not understand why it projects a ghost of the character close to the door and what that means. I know I could probably look up the walkthrough of this level online but I'd like to solve it myself if only I could understand how this game mechanic works.

In Chapter 4, there are two different dimensions of gravity - your dimension and the dimension that is effecting all of the specially highlighted objects. When you rotate gravity normally, you rotate both your gravity dimension and the new special gravity dimension, but when you're standing inside of the veil, you're only rotating the special gravity dimension. Hope that helps!

Thank you Ty!

So the ghost projected outside the veil means that my character's and the Menace's gravity are aligned?

EDIT:

I gave up and watched this walkthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fp5lbBx5do4
Never in a thousand years I would have thought I was supposed to push a button when crossing the veil, did I miss an instruction in a previous level?

EDIT 2:

I am pressing W every time I pass through the veil but it doesn't look like the gravity is changing one bit. :S

You don't need to press a button/key when inside of the veil. Simply standing behind the curtain will make you control the special gravity dimension instad of your own (hense why when you're behind the curtain, the character's gravity is unchanged). When you're outside of the veil, you're simultaneously controlling both your gravity dimension and the special gravity dimension (so the new special gravity dimension is always changing when you rotate gravity, regardless of where you're standing, but when you're in the veil, you don't change your own gravity dimension).

Was easy and fun up until this Einstein difficulty level, no idea you could even control the direction of gravity, before this level it just seemed you used the veil to stick in a spot and rotate the other objects.
