The biggest difference is the hub world. Harry Potter has a huge hub world (Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, Hogsmead, London) but it is made up of small areas that you must travel between. LEGO Marvel has a large open city that you can fly/drive/walk around (Batman 2 is the same, but with a dark, rainy, gothic theme).
The open world is pretty fun, but I think you will enjoy the HP games better. Get 5-7 if you're only going to get one game... gameplay is the same and the hub world is larger.
thanks your comment helped me i was wondering if i could play harry potter 5-7 without the 1-4 or if i needed 1-4 (truth is i like the darker harry potter movies better 5-7)
@NiteNite 5-7 is a separate game, not DLC, so you don't need one to play the other
