Can I play without social club?

I don't give half a fu(k about social club, I just want to conclude the Max Payne storyline by playing the campaign. Yet, when I start up the game, it says "social club ui failed to initialize". Before that, it says that I should re-instal social club. Isn't there some way to get past this?

You're not the first person to ask this. Look over at Rockstar Support, they have troubleshooting on many issues there: http://support.rockstargames.com/forums/20686362-Max-Payne-3-PC-Technical-Support

In any case, Social Club is really only needed once, where you need to input your CD-key and log into your account (or create one). After that, you can set it up so it saves your username/password and it will stop bothering you.

That's bad. Very bad. I don't want create another account on something that gives me ABSOLUTELY NO benefit, and is potential security issue,another account that can be hacked, like Ubisoft was few weeks ago. Shame on you, Rockstar. You're paying me back. Refund time :/

I remembered the password to my old social club account and played through the game, it was a lot of fun, definitly worth it. If you got it on sale, I would reccomend making the social club account and playing through it... just use a different password then your usual password(s) so it's no good if it's hacked. Though I agree, signing up for all this extra layer of drm stuff is rediculous especially with the ubisoft hack and all, it's not all that inconvenient either. Okay, in some cases like crysis where there's no offline play it's pretty inconvenient, but in this case, it's not that big of a deal. So... meh.
