Max Payne 3 won't load social club
I have been trying to get this game working for hours, following recommendations at http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2732520 including copying the directory to the root of C and removing the spaces in the folder names, modifying the registy, etc. I am on Win7 32 bit.

However, the social club won't load so when I press enter to continue on the MP3 initial screen it just then says initializing. With the MP3 game on the initial screen I have tried running the renderer.exe file as admin but it tells me that this is meant not to be loaded outside of a game and it won't load. I have the 1.011 latest version of the social club and ran the installation from the c:\maxpayne3 folder. I tried running the vcredist installation also.

How can I get the social club to run?

i had the same problem, you got to press home button on your keyboard, above the cursors and then log in on social club. After that the game launches with no problems. Good luck!

Home button doesn't work for me. The social club won't even load in the first place.

I have exactly the same trouble... On the initialization page of the game I can't clic on the rockstar social club link... SO BORING !

Noblesavage, thank you for the link, I have tried that and no success.

On the initialization page there isn't even a social club link for me to click on, the social club never loads.

A quick search through their Technical Support pages doesn't bring up your particular issue. I'd suggest submitting a ticket here: http://support.rockstargames.com/anonymous_requests/new

You'll have to wait until they get back to you with some answers.

And to reiterate what Tenshi said, you don't click on the Social Club button - there is no clicking of your mouse involved. You have to press your Home key which is directly above your arrow keys on your keyboard. If that doesn't work, go to your numpad and push the "Num Lock" button (to turn it off) and push 7 - this doubles as a Home key.

Does the game give you any errors?

You might want to consider Verifying Your Game Cache. Right click the game in your library, click on Properties, Click on the Local Files Tab, Click Verify Game Integrity Cache button at the bottom of the list, and let Steam do it's thing. Failing that you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the game (which is a huge pain in the ass considering how large this game is to download).

Before doing all that, SUBMIT A TICKET TO ROCKSTAR. It might take them awhile to get back to you.

Thank you, I will submit a ticket. I don't click anything, the social club just doesn't run so the game doesn't get past initializing, and I tried the home and numlock-then-7 keys but with the social club not running at all that doesn't work. I tried verifying game integrity cache and I even deleted local files and re-downloaded the game (10 hours). I tried the other suggestions in that other thread I quoted, there are a ton of suggestions there but they didn't work for me. Hopefully after I submit a ticket they will give me a fix or else a refund, but I'm hoping for a fix. Thanks.

I've had the same problem, wasted hours of my life trying to get it to work and submitted a support ticket. Their respose was "we know and are looking into it".

Thanks. I guess I'll play something else in the meantime.

I had a similar problem with L.A. Noire. R* support recomendations after some research where to reinstall the latest version of Direct X for your operating system (Win 7 is 10 or 11 depending on video card support) and there was something to do with the MS dotNET programs. With XP it appears that Social Club has an incompatibility issue with dotNET 4.0 and later that they have not been able to find. So they recommended that I disable 4.0 in my dotNET settings and to make sure I had the latest update for dotNET 3.5 installed. This fixed my Social Club problem and let it launch but I could not get L.A. Noire to activate. That one still has them stumped. Especially since I moved it to my Windows 7 64 bit computer and all of it installed, updated, and activated with no problems.

Hope this information helps. Good luck.

Thanks. I did remove .net 4.0 but I have not re-installed DirectX. I am not holding out much hope for that since I'm on DirectX 11 and all of my other games are working fine.

I submitted request #630272 over a week ago and have yet to see a reply; let alone have the issue resolved.

I did get a reply but it listed things I had mostly already tried from that other thread. I believe (or guess) that they are working on trying to fix the issues or at least some of the issues people are having just getting the game to run, so I will play other things and check back again in a few months.
