I tried to fix this by typing "-dx9" into the library/max payne/properties/start options string on steam, apparently it works

Bump, same stuff for me. Also windows are plain white and there are some weird lightning glitches with big circles appearing on the ground.

Thanks Rockstar for providing such a shietty port.

I see the problem macbook ;). No but you could try this fix that i found by google - Go to the Max Payne folder in your documents folder. Find the graphics xml file and place a 0 in the DirectX line. This will change the Directx to 9 instead of 11. For some reason DirectX 11,10,10.1 all run terribly slowly with lots of jitters and huge loading times for levels. Also set your resolution and other settings to whatever you want. All thanks goes to whitedragon101.

Thank you mate, but don't suppose you could tell me where i can find this xml graphics file that i need to amend? I can't find it anywhere and searching for 'directx' in the finder window isn't returning anything. Really appreciate your help on this.

For me the graphics XML file is located (C:\Users\user\Documents\Rockstar Games\Max Payne 3) Im using Windows 7 thou :). To change the file open it with for example notepad and change <DirectXVersion value="3"/> to <DirectXVersion value="0"/>. Close and save :)

ah ok, i'm on OS X - those kind of files aren't editable or findable i don't think (although i can't think why that would be the case). My Max Payne game is found in the steam folder but it's just the application, no apparent supporting files. Thanks for your help anyway - much appreciated.

My max payne is installed on my second harddrive (D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Max Payne 3). The file isnt where you installed the game, but at the dokuments. Try looking trough your dokuments after a folder namned Rockstar Games. Dont know much about mac, sorry :/

meisterkoff - don't suppose you'd suggest changing anything of the following?

<Resolution value="9"/>
<Width value="1600"/>
<Height value="900"/>
<RefreshRate value="60"/>
<Fullscreen value="1"/>
<TextureQuality value="1"/>
<AnisotropicQuality value="1"/>
<Vsync value="1"/>
<SSAO value="0"/>
<ShadowQuality value="2"/>
<ReflectionQuality value="2"/>
<WaterQuality value="0"/>
<FXAA value="2"/>
<Tessellation value="0"/>
<HighQualityShaders value="1"/>
<DirectXVersion value="0"/>
<MSAA value="1"/>
