Max Payne 3

Max Payne 3

Do not buy this game.
A few months ago I picked up the complete pack over on Amazon, in a sale. Yesterday, I decided to finally download the game. Chaos ensued.

Max Payne 3 is yet another bad console port from Rockstar. One which uses the Rockstar Games Social Club DRM. A piece of DRM that breaks the game for many.

The game constantly crashes, has poor performance, and is extremely unstable.

If you plan to buy this, do not waste your money, because you'll download 30gb of buggy mess.

Some of the fixes require you to run the game in compatibility mode. Doing so breaks RGSC, causing you to be unable to run the game. It crashes either on startup, or 2-3 minutes in. Sometimes takes your entire PC with it too.

I had the game on the 360 and it was fun. Not the greatest thing, but fun. However, dealing with this ♥♥♥♥, even though I paid for the game, is not fun. People who pirate it do not have to put up with this crap, because they don't have to deal with DRM. So thanks Rockstar, thanks for being another company that screws paying customers because you think you can stop piracy.

In short: avoid this junk like the plague.

RGSC is a piece of useless junk, like Uplay and other similar garbage DRM, I wholeheartedly agree with that. I have to manually sign in and link my Steam account every time I play Max Payne 3. WTF is up with that? What does linking do? It does nothing as far as I can tell... because it doesn't stay "linked".

However, I do not agree that the game is unstable, crashy or has poor performance. I play with maxed out DX11 settings, and the game hasn't crashed once in over 5 hours of playing. It's a rock solid 60 fps with no stability or performance issues for me. (i7-4770k, 16 GB RAM and an overclocked GTX 670).

I'm still struggling to get the game to not crash before the menu. As soon as I run it, it'll freeze up my entire PC before the splash screes are over. When my PC is just freshly booted and it's the first launch, I can make it into the game but it'll freeze up again after a couple of minutes.

I have not experienced this problem with -any- other game, so I know full well it's not my system but the game itself.

Every fix I try to do causes another thing to break. ie, comptability mode kills RGSC which is required to actually play the damn thing.

Oh, and posting for the sake of it, I'm rollin' with an FX4170, 7970Ghz edition, and 8 gigs of RAM.

That's a garbage rig to try and run this with. It's not the game, it's your crappy specs.

Lol, okay. A mid range AMD CPU and high end GPU is a crappy rig. Forgot this game took an i11 CPU and 4 titans to run at lowest settings.

Plenty of more demanding games than this work fine on my setup. The differences is those aren't half-assed console ports filled with bugs and some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pointless DRM.

...do you even know what a 7970ghz edition is? It's not the top card, ya. But it's definitely a high end video card.

OP I suggest you verify the integrity of your cache, or look at what other programs you're running. I think you're CPU bound...what speed are you running your fx4170 at?

Edit: I ran the game fine years ago on an i7 950 @ 4ghz and a gtx 570...so it's not a terribly optimized port. Make sure you leave MSAA @ 4x or lower. (I'm currently running a 780 ti and it can't handle the game @ 8xmsaa @ 1080p)

CPU is clocked at 4.4Ghz. My issue is that I can't even get to the main menu. It'll crash before the splash screens.

The best part is Rockstar is going on denial about this, somebody brought this up in their forums, and they say its only happening to some people as supposed to the masses that are geting now.

You right Thomas, No more Rockstar! Their "Social Club" it's a worst thing that i saw.
Even with a runnable game (normal Hardware), I can't play in it because its not linked with RGSC.
What a hell? I'm already bought it in Steam, all my personal credentials they can take from Steam.
I DON'T WANT "to LINK" TO ANYTHING ELSE!

Please stop, you have no idea what you're talking about.
Please enlighten me how a computer build with "crappy specs" (7970 GHz crappy? lol) is to blame.

If you have a crappy computer then the only thing that should affect the game is the performance due to the graphic options, not the DRM being crap and the game should definitely not be crashing.

If your game is going to be on steam there is no reason for other kinds of DRM. I made the same mistake buying this game as well.
